Focus of Study :
Developed for students who are more ambitious and wish to take advantage of additional classes, and for those who have less time at their disposal.
METHOD:
Castila wants to show students a language which, though full of contrasts, has brought millions of people together worldwide through centuries of history and continues to do so to this day. To reach the specific objectives of each level, Castila offers optimal learning conditions, based on organization and method. This is a student-centered method, which considers the teacher as the facilitator and organiser of learning activities according to the students’ levels, needs and personalities. The starting point is a comprehensive planning of goals and contents according to the linguistic needs of the student, his/her competence level and the number of weeks he/she will stay at Castila. This planning is done based on a previous determination of initial level. Our method of a coordinated rotation of teachers gives the widest possible exposure to spoken Spanish. It means that every lesson is taught by a different teacher, carefully planned by the coordinator and academic manager. Courses are interactive and emphasis is placed on participation in the classroom.
Communicative, traditional and other modern activities in the classroom are selected depending on the specific characteristics of each student and his/her group.
Curriculum :
The intensive spanish course offers year-round every Monday with 6 classes per day 8:35AM to 14:30PM. Castila’s extensive experience and consistent revision of contents has led to a new concept of levels, structured in hours of study. The following plan refers to the 102 (A) course, 30 hours per week. This course consists of 2 extra hours daily, allowing the student to practice, review and reinforce the acquired language skills up to that point, but without studying new content Every week of study contains appropriate formal and conversational contents according to the European Common Framework for Languages (ECFL) and material can be applied to the three levels of the Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE), as established by the Instituto Cervantes: initial, intermediate and superior. Apart from the above information, Castila also offers more practice and reviewing when the teaching staff considers it appropriate according to the students’ needs. Castila also proposes an objective test at the end of every level, so that we can evaluate the process and guarantee perfect timing. To achieve the C.2 level (mastery), Castila proposes specific topics courses, such as courses applied to professional purposes (medicine, law, diplomacy, commerce, business, teaching, etc.), Spanish and Latin American literature and society or any other course where the objective is communicating in Spanish like a native or developing a professional career in a Spanish-speaking country.
