Course Information

  • Focus of Study:
    In Global English Plus, students can personalise their study by selecting from various options for half of their study time, including focusing on IELTS, Business English, confident speaking, writing skills and various topics.

    Benefit, goal of this course:
    The course is designed for students who want to improve their everyday English language skills and is also suitable for those who need a preparatory course before moving into the Academic English course. Students study language structure, listening and reading skills, vocabulary and fluency and accuracy in writing and speaking.

    Curriculum:
    Various elective courses such as IELTS, Power Writing, Business English, Confident Speaking are provided.
    The programme includes 20 core hours of tuition with 2 additional workshops. Class sessions are split into morning and afternoon sessions depending on level. Session one runs from 8.20 – 12.30pm and session two runs from 1.00 – 5.15pm.

  • Homestay
    Students will be placed with a New Zealand family to help practise their English in an everyday situation and experience the Kiwi lifestyle. Homestays are usually a 30-minute bus ride from school. Homestay accommodation includes students' own room and two meals (breakfast and dinner) Monday to Friday, and all meals for weekends and public holidays.

    Homestay Fee: $280 per week (21st Dec 2014-4th Jan 2015: $312.50 per week)
    The school do not accept students under 18. 

    Empire Apartment
    5 minutes’ walk from ELA
    Shared three-bedroom apartment $220 per week.
    Studio apartment $340 per week, suit one or two people, twin or double bed.
    Rates include water, power, weekly housekeeping and GST.
    Minimum stay 4 weeks. Security deposit $400.
    Bedding package includes duvet, pillow, sheets, laundered weekly.
    Towels not included.
    Final cleaning; $60 will be taken off security deposit when student checks out.
    ELA will do bookings for Empire but students pay rent direct to Empire.

    Renting own accommodation
    "Flatting" in New Zealand means renting a house or apartment (flat) either on their own or with other people, and is common among those studying in New Zealand for extended periods.  Normally students have your own room but share facilities with their flatmates. Flats are generally advertised in newspapers, on student notice boards and the Internet.
    Costs: The estimated total cost ranges from NZ$250 to NZ$350 per person in Auckland, with NZ$150 - NZ$250 of this going toward room rent only. Telephone line rental costs NZ$40 per month plus any long-distance or cellphone calls.
    Approximately NZ$1000-$1500 bond is needed for most flats, and this is paid directly to the Housing Commission.

Facilities

  • ELA is located adjacent to The University of Auckland’s city campus in downtown Auckland. ELA has purpose-built modern classrooms to cater for over 400 students in a spacious environment. Also we have an English Language Self Access Centre (ELAB), open seven days per week with 90 computers and provides students with state-of-the-art computer facilities and well-equipped student lounges. There are two student lounges where students can have lunch, take a break or use the Internet facilities. The lounges are equipped with sofas, chairs and tables, microwaves and tea and coffee facilities. A large outdoor area provides a relaxing environment also.The University of Auckland has a health and fitness studio with machine weights, free weights and cardio theatre as well as fitness consultations and comprehensive aerobics programmes. There are also recreational classes in racket sports, dance and group fitness programme. Students can utilize squash courts, a multi-purpose main hall for basketball, soccer, volleyball and a state-of-the-art climbing wall.

Activity

  • Students can play social games of monopoly, test their vocabulary with Scrabble, or get to know their classmates more intimately with Twister. Students can also participate in various indoor and outdoor activities including fully guided tour of Auckland's youngest volcano, bowling, rock climbing and jet boating.

Getting to school from the airport, 3D School view

  • If students have requested an airport pickup, they will be met by a "meet and greet "service. They will be transferred directly to their homestay or Empire Apartments.

    If students would like to make their own arrangements, an airport bus to the city leaves every hour. The fare is $20. Taxis are available and cost around NZ$50 into the city centre or $NZ70 if students have to go across the harbour bridge. Prices and times for travel into the city will vary, especially if they arrive during rush-hour traffic.

在課堂上常會玩有趣的遊戲,老師不論怎麼樣都會鼓勵你做的很好。學校在每天也會有不同的活動,像我有和同學一起參加紐西蘭的球類運動、做越南春捲等等,也有和學校的旅行團一起去滑雪,感覺生活很多采多姿又沒有考試的壓力。
後來我離開時,同學有幫我們這群辦歡送會,甚至在學校認識的台灣同學到現在都還有連絡。感覺跟不同國家的同學上課很開心,也可以了解很多有別於台灣的不同的世界。

住寄宿家庭,不過離學校搭公車通勤要三十分鐘,每天都會經過奧克蘭大橋,看到漂亮的海和無數艘帆船。我住的房間非常奢華,很大又一個人睡雙人床,還有一張書桌。對於住宿有一些限制,不過大致上還不錯,我有三個室友,偶爾也會和他們一起出去走走。
奧克蘭就是一個大都市,雖然也有一些不錯的景點,也可以在路上看到各式各樣各個國家的人,但剛從基督城到奧克蘭這人多車多的大城市,還真不習慣,我花了好幾天才適應過來。這次是我第一次自己一個人出國,除了在紐西蘭待兩個月唸語言學校,結束後我還再到澳洲旅行。感覺這趟旅程最大的收穫是做了自己以前不敢做的事。在唸語言學校的期間,我周末都會自己安排各個景點去自助旅行,在旅行前不僅要做好功課,到了當地也要靠著地圖慢慢摸索,或是問旅遊服務中心。
真的非常推薦大家去紐西蘭念語言學校唷,一定會有很多收穫!!
