Course information

  • Curriculum Overview

St John's College prepares students for life in the wider community of Aotearoa New Zealand and the world. Our curriculum is evolving and regularly reviewed in this rapidly changing world.

The St John's College Curriculum is an interpretation of the New Zealand Curriculum which forms the overriding structure for the subjects offered. One adaptation is that Religious Education is a core subject at all levels for all pupils. At senior levels, students work towards NCEA credits in Religious Education.

A wide range of traditional and specialist subjects are offered to cater for the different needs and interest of students who attend the College.

    Students work towards qualifications in:

National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3

These three certificates (Levels 1, 2, and 3) allow students to gain the National University Entrance Certificate (entrance to any university in New Zealand) and entrance into any polytechnic in New Zealand. It also enables students to gain the University of Waikato $3,000 Merit School Leaver Scholarship.

    Industry Training Organisation (ITO) Certificate

If the subject is overseen by ITO credits.

Focus on Creativity and Problem Solving

There is more to education, and life,  than qualifications. Students practice the skills and techniques of problem solving and creative thinking in all their subjects, so that they establish these as skills for life.

St John's College encourages students to set themselves personal goals of excellence in all they do, including:

    AcademicCulturalSportingInterpersonal RelationshipsLeadership and Citizenship
