About the  English Language Centre

  • AIS (Auckland Institute of Studies) is an authorized school official from the New Zealand Education Commission (NZQA). AIS is one of the largest private university in the New Zealand, has Department of Business Administration, Tourism and Hotel Department, IT Department and the English Language Institute at the University, and is an internationally recognized institution receives. In addition, the English Language Institute at the University teaches International Business and English language teaching, from the most basic and general English Beginner Advance Level (1 ~ 8 level) up, is famous for Academic English courses in IELTS, EAP I-II, a business, an institution renowned TESOL teaching course. Courses are offered by a variety of English courses from the Master's degree course. The library is well with the state-of-the-art audio-visual teaching materials for self-study and infrastructure dormitory and gymnasium, sports hall, until it has a tennis court, and can provide a more focused learning in a natural environment-friendly campus. Friendliness and well-balanced school facilities of the faculty provides a good atmosphere for students.

  • Curriculum:  
    The decision to study English is an exciting one, and the English Language Centre at AIS St Helens guides and supports students through this learning process. AIS' team of dedicated and dynamic tutors in the English Language Centre will ensure students have extremely beneficial and stimulating classes, as well as planned activities and outings after class.

    The General English programme at AIS St Helens aims to guide students through English proficiency step by step. Topical, modern textbooks and an interactive classroom approach are used to support students' learning thoughout the courses. Students are assigned to one of the following classes to ensure they are at the optimum level for progress: •Beginners, •High Beginners, •Elementary, •Upper Elementary, •Pre-Intermediate, •Intermediate, •Upper Intermediate, •Advanced

     Students are given the opportunity to use the skills they have learned in general class. There is a focus on “real day-to-day” English with topic-based learning and weekly vocabulary and speaking assessments. 
    New Zealand focused text books are used to cover all aspects of General English.

    A three-level building situated at the St Helens Camps provides accommodation for 120 residents in single, twin and multi-share rooms. The rooms are fully furnished, each with its own study area. 


    Homestay
    Many students are keen to experience the New Zealand lifestyle while they are studying at AIS St. Helens. AIS has an extensive list of carefully selected and approved homestay families to choose from and can arrange placement for students who wish to live in a family environment. Homestay students also benefit from the opportunity to practice their English. Two weeks' notice is required to arrange homestay accommodation. Homestay rates cover accommodation and two meals (breakfast and dinner) per weekday, and three meals during weekends and on public holidays. A member of the homestay family is required to escort their student to and from AIS on their first day of study.


Surrounding Area

  • The AIS St Helens Main Campus is located 10 minutes from the Auckland Central Business District (CBD) in Western Springs, Auckland. Travelling to and from the campus is easy as it is located close to Auckland’s North Western motorway, and train and bus services are frequent. The AIS St Helens Asquith Campus is located just over 5 minutes walk from the Main Campus. The Auckland metropolitan area, in the North Island of New Zealand, is the largest and most populous urban area in the country with 1,377,200 residents, 31 percent of the country's population. Auckland has the largest Polynesian population of any city in the world. Also, Auckland used to be the capital of New Zealand from 1840 to 1865. Auckland has a warm-temperate climate, with warm, humid summers and mild, damp winters. The average daily maximum temperature is 23.7°C (74.7°F) in February and 14.5°C (58.1°F) in July.

     Online VISA Centre
    AIS provides online VISA services for students’ conveniences. Students can consult AIS’s professional counselors and get their VISA in less than 5 days. CafeteriaAIS operates cafeterias n both Main Campus and Asquith Campus; students can purchase food or bring their own food.  

    Shuttle Bus
    AIS shuttle buses run from Oakland City to Main Campus.
    City Shuttle : Departs at 8:00 and 8:30 in the morning from Gore Street (just on the opposite of I station Residence Hotel) *Main CampusShuttle : Runs three times from 14:15 – 15:15

Activity

  • AIS offers various social activities for the students. Students can participate in diverse sports activities, including indoor soccer, tennis, cycling, golf and so on. Moreover, students can join many activities such as shopping at a mall, visiting an Asian market and visiting a farm.

Getting to school from the airport

  • An AIS St Helens representative will be waiting for students in the main arrivals area at Auckland International Airport. Walk straight out the exit into the arrivals lounge. Don't turn left at the Group Tours exit.

    If the AIS St Helens representative is not waiting in the arrivals lounge, don't panic! Wait at the McDonald's restaurant to the side of the lounge. Do not go anywhere else - our representative will find students there.

    If, after one hour, students still haven't been picked up by the representative, please phone 09-815 1717 ext 811 or 09-815 3770 (for the dormitory office during office hours), or 021 616 282 (for the security staff after hours) to advise that students are still waiting.

Q: 想請問關於學校周邊環境問題,可以介紹一下週邊環境嗎? A: 您好,感謝您的來訊息詢問,關於學校附近的設施以下為您做個介紹。奧克蘭商學院位於商場距離。在奧克蘭的南西部有高速公路和火車及巴士等,前往至奧克蘭學院相當容易的。奧克蘭商校院在主要校園出發徒步五分的距離。 奧克蘭位在紐西蘭北島北端的紐西蘭最大都市,是紐西蘭的首都。氣候暖活,地形上氣溫的溫差不大,夏天和邱年溫差大概十度左右。 主要地形式黃金地屬於市內中心地,歷史性的建築和高級的餐廳和新商店以及咖啡廳餐廳生活機能良好。

終於等到出發的這一天了!!!大家都好替我緊張,擔心東擔心西的,但是我不知道為什麼就一個衝動甚麼也不擔心地飛到了紐西蘭。有些事就是遇到了再想辦法解決,這就是準備出國要有的心態啦!然後其實語言這種東西用手比一比也能通,真的很神奇。

在學校到處是不同國籍的學生,我們最需要適應的是各種口音。全英文上課是讓英文突飛猛進的主力啊!因為呢,大家一下課一定都是找自己同國籍的聚在一起講著自己的語言,所以要把握上課的時間學習英文。我認為進步最大的是聽力這方面,至於說的部份就要看個人主動的程度了。
遊學英語只需要上半天的課,所以我們有好多時間可以到處看看體驗當地人的生活。在機場的時候就有很多免費的旅遊書可以拿,所以不用怕不知道要去哪裡玩。
第一週好興奮,每天下課都到處玩。紐西蘭真是好山好水好地方!我很喜歡他們的地方是下午時間很多人就會坐在酒吧小酌,真的很愜意很悠閒。走了很多路,曬了很多太陽,也留下很多美的回憶。
經過了這三個月下來,雖然曬得又黑又醜,很後悔自己沒認真防曬,但是‧‧‧體驗了不一樣的生活方式,覺得自己獨立了成熟了變厲害了!英文進步的確有限,因為畢竟待的時間不長,至少敢大聲地講英文。在國外遇到的每個人每件事,讓我學會珍惜當下,因為每一次的相遇都是一期一會,謝謝這次的遊學團以及遇到的每個人,讓我在紐西蘭有很棒的回憶。
