Academy of Language Arts About the

  • Establishment 1984, Because of its homey atmosphere and hospitality, the Academy of Language Arts (ALA) attracts students who wish to study the Japanese language from over 30 countries around the world. The students study not only the language of Japan, but also society, culture, and custom through ALA's classes and extracurricular activities, enabling them to strengthen ties with both Japanese and multinational peers.In addition to assistance to prepare for higher education, ALA provides assistance to students who wish to seek future careers in Japan. ALA divides students into more than 9 levels, ranging from entry to advanced levels, according to their skills. ALA provides "spoken Japanese" that is practical to meet various occasions such as "survival" Japanese, business Japanese, Japanese language for higher education, etc. Japanese language learners from over 30 countries around the world have now registered in ALA. The common language that the students from different countries of origin talk to each other is of course Japanese. We also have students from Australia, Thailand, Germany, Bulgaria,U.K and other 28 countries. Each class is small, with 12 students on average, and its own homeroom teacher. Because of the small size of classes, the homeroom teacher can take care of each student. This is another feature of ALA designed to encourage students to have more opportunities to speak. ALA provides hospitable assistance for students: Full-time/part-time job hunting; continuing to higher education; accommodation allocation; visa application, etc., all in a homey atmosphere. Furthermore, staff in charge of each language are always ready for assistance in various ways.
     

Course Information

  • Focus of Study :
    "USABLE" is the most important key when you learn a language at ALA You can use the knowledge and skill which you've learned immediately. We promise you that you will learn useful Japanese which you can put to use immediately in your daily life.

    Curriculum :
    You are what you say. You will learn "Adult Japanese" here to express yourself as an adult in Japanese society. This allow you to operate at a higher level of communication.In addition to conversation course, ALA provides a wide variety of curriculum to meet individual requirements such as for success in business in Japan, for university enrolment, and for understanding of Japanese culture.

    Course for General Conversation: focusing on progress with operational ability of Japanese Conversation, students also aim at progress with reading and composition comprehension. Course for Comprehensive/Higher-course Application: this course fits candidates for Japanese-Language Proficiency Test and applicants for admission to Japanese university and graduate school. In this course you can study four skills (reading/writing/listening/speaking) well-balanced.
     
    Japanese language classes at ALA are divided into small classes according to students' levels. Students can study the Japanese language level that are best suited for each student: from starting to refresher level. The Program is offered at 9 levels of instruction; B1 is the most elementary level while Level A4 is the most advanced.

    Iidabashi is easily accessible from anywhere, with the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line, Yurakucho Line, Namboku Line, Toei Subway Oedo Line, and JR Chuo Sobu Line.
    You can walk to Kagurazaka, which is famous as a quaint town, within a few minutes.
    There are convenience stores, supermarkets, cafes, post offices, clinics, etc. around the school.
