Course information

  • Focus of Study :
    Students in Grade 7 and 8 continue to focus on both academic and social skills necessary to support their growth and development. 

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    Digital literacy and digital citizenship are infused into all subject areas. In addition to teaching and assessing subject-specific material, Grade 7 and 8 teachers collaborate to create a variety of activities that develop transferable skills and promote safe and responsible use of learning technologies.

    Curriculum :
    The academic program includes English, Literacy, Mathematics, Science and Technology, History, Geography, Health and Physical Education, the Arts (Drama, Dance, Visual Arts, and Music) and International Languages (French, Japanese or Putonghua). However, students have specialized subject teachers and rotate through the day to subject-specific classes. 

    There is also a House Leagues program to help students build a strong sense of community and personal accomplishment through team-work. Subject teachers prioritize the creation of inclusive, stimulating learning environments to support and challenge student thinking. Teachers are also committed to providing differentiated instruction to enhance student mastery of the subject material. Students demonstrate their mastery by applying knowledge of the subject material in unique and varied ways.

  • As an international school, Delia School of Canada has an open admissions policy which allows for the acceptance of students throughout the school year. This policy has been designed to accommodate the needs of members of the global workforce and the Hong Kong community. Applications can be submitted in person, through mail/email, or completed online.

    - Parents must complete an application package that includes academic and residency documentation.  When all documents have been submitted to the school, the student applicant and parents or guardians may be invited to an interview to discuss the child’s placement. 
    - Delia School of Canada strictly adheres to the guidelines of the year of birth-grade placement policy as outlined by the Ontario Ministry of Education.  Age-appropriate grade level placement is strictly enforced.
    - Students who are in need of English instruction are supported by our English as a Second Language Program. These programs are optional and they will be recommended if the student does not have the necessary English proficiency to complete the course requirements of the grade level.
    - When a class is full, students will be placed on a waitlist. Delia School of Canada is committed to maintaining small class sizes. 
    - Interview will be proceed after submission of application packages and supporting documents.

Course information

  • Focus of Study : 
    Our teachers are committed to creating stimulating learning environments that challenge students to critically analyze, interpret and communicate their understanding of course content and its implication and/or application. 

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    The DSC Guidance Counsellors assist students with academic decisions, career planning, and meeting their graduation requirements. In addition to these services, the Guidance Counsellors also help coordinate activities for the 40-hours of community service students are required to complete before graduation as well as providing university information sessions, and various workshops for students.

    Curriculum :
    Curriculum delivery is dynamic and varied with multiple opportunities for students to practice/ demonstrate their knowledge and understanding in a variety of ways. Students require 30 credits to graduate, must pass the Ontario secondary school literacy requirement, and complete a minimum of 40 hours of community service. (see Graduation Requirements).

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    This holistic program provides the foundations for positive life-long learning with students not only gaining knowledge but also developing skills that will help them to become dynamic, responsible and contributing members of our global society. Our student-centred approach to learning cultivates the development of thinking and communication skills, problem-solving skills, and creativity while fostering empathy and an appreciation of diversity. Technology is integrated throughout the curriculum beginning in Pre-Grade 1 with 1:2 iPads, enhanced in the Primary Division with 1:1 iPads, and then again in the Junior Division with 1:1 laptops.  

    Curriculum :
    Based on the curriculum of Ontario, Canada, our comprehensive program focuses on the following subject areas - English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, Social Studies, Health and Physical Education, the Arts (Drama, Dance, Visual Arts, and Music) and International Languages (French, Japanese or Putonghua). Students are assigned to a homeroom class and their homeroom teacher provides instruction for all subjects except Health and Physical Education, Music, and International Language.

Facilities

  • To support and enhance student learning, technology is integrated in the curriculum with the use of tools like LCD projection system, smartboards, ipads and a multi-media room and studio. 1-to-1 laptop ownership program is implemented in Grades 4-12. Two ICT Specialist teachers supports the integration of technology in the classroom. In addition subscriptions to online web-based resources, software and elibrary provides opportunities for students of all grades for e-learning within and outside the classroom.

Activity

  • Extracurricular activities are an important part of school life at Delia School of Canada. Students have the opportunity to join clubs and teams throughout the school year. A variety of clubs and teams are offered. These are supervised by members of the teaching staff and provide students with an opportunity to learn a new activity, make new friends, develop social and leadership skills while building a strong sense of community and school spirit. As a member of the International School Sports Federation of Hong Kong (ISSFHK) and the Hong Kong Schools Sports Federation (HKSSF), Delia School of Canada has over 40 teams competing regionally in 12 different sports.
