Getting to the school from the airport, 3D School view
Kaplan transfers Students should book their flights according to the starting date of their specific programme. Students must arrive on Saturday or Sunday prior to their course start date. Students must provide their agent or Kaplan International with exact flight details - airline, flight number, arrival date and time, place of origin. Students must provide Kaplan International with their flight details no later than two weeks before their arrival.
Our Airport transfer service transports students directly to their homestay or residence. Students will be met in the arrivals area of Auckland International Airport. A Kaplan International representative will be waiting there with a Kaplan International sign and your name. If you cannot find the representative within 15 minutes of leaving the arrival gate, you should find the public telephone at the airport information desk and telephone one of the following emergency numbers:

처음에는 어학연수 계획 없이 뉴질랜드에 왔는데 생각보다 외국인 친구들을 만나기 힘들고, 영어로 길게 얘기할 기회가 많지 않아서 어학연수를 결심하게 되었습니다. 아직 8주밖에 공부하지 않았지만, 영어 실력이 향상되고 있다고 생각합니다. 한국에서의 영어학습과 비교했을 때 한국에서는 전반적으로 설명을 듣거나, 문제를 풀고, 단어를 암기하는 식의 수동적인 방법으로 공부를 했다면, 이곳에서는 수업 중 스피킹이 중점이 된다고 느꼈습니다. 하나의 주제를 가지고 토론을 하거나 의견을 나누는 회화 시간뿐 아니라 문법이나 단어를 배울 때도 반 친구들과 끊임없이 영어로 얘기할 기회가 많아서 도움이 되었습니다. 그 과정에서 자연스럽게 리스닝 실력도 향상되는 것 같습니다.

우선 믿을 수 있는 규모가 어느 정도 있는 곳에서 공부하고 싶었고, 상대적으로 소셜 액티비티로 유명한 타 어학교에 비해, 교재를 직접 제작하고 정석적으로 수업한다고 알려진 곳에서 제대로 공부하고 싶은 마음이 커서 카플란을 선택했습니다. 그리고 이것은 정말 합리적인 결정이었습니다.
연수도시를 오클랜드로 결정한 이유는?
처음부터 뉴질랜드에서 어학연수를 하겠다고 결심한 것은 아니였고, 친구와 함께 워킹홀리데이 비자로 수월하게 올 수 있는 나라를 찾다가 뉴질랜드에 오게 되었습니다. 뉴질랜드에 도착한 후에는 규모가 있는 큰 도시에서 현지 생활 적응이 수월할 것 같아서 오클랜드로 결정했습니다. 멀리 여행을 가지 않아도 오클랜드 시티 내에 30분 내외로 놀러 갈 곳이 많아 지루할 틈이 없습니다. 특히 오클랜드 페리 터미널에서 페리를 타고 데본포트나 와이헤케 섬에 갔던 것이 정말 좋았습니다!
연수 후 영어실력 향상
매일 공부를 하기 때문에 전반적으로 중급에서 중상급 정도로 실력이 늘었고, 그중에서도 리스닝과 스피킹 실력이 많이 향상되었다고 생각합니다. 한국에서 배우는
미국 영어 발음뿐 아니라 다양한 나라에서 온 친구들의 영어를 들을 수 있어 오히려 리스닝에 도움이 되었다고 느꼈습니다. 또한, 이제는 큰 망설임 없이 영어로 말을 하고 의사를 전달할 수 있게 되어 기쁩니다.

가장 기억에 남는 소셜 액티비티
저는 카플란을 통해 갈 수 있는 주말여행을 적극적으로 참여했습니다. 혼자 알아보는 것보다 편리하고 저렴하며, 주말여행만으로도 뉴질랜드에서 유명한 명소를 대부분 가볼 수 있었습니다. 그중에서 가장 좋았던 소셜 액티비티는 ‘보트 파티’입니다. 보트 하나를 빌려 2~3 시간 동안 주변 강을 돌며 배 안에서 여러 친구들과 좋은 시간을 보낼 수 있었습니다. 다른 액티비티들도 좋았지만, 보트 파티에 참여하며 외국인 친구들과 함께 어울리며 외국에서 공부하고 있음을 제일 실감할 수 있었습니다.
향후 어학연수를 계획하는 학생들에게 해주고 싶은 조언은?
처음에는 과연 어학연수가 내 영어 실력에 도움이 될까, 외국에서 잘 적응할 수 있을까 고민이 많았는데 그런 걱정이 무색하게 영어실력도 성장시킬 수 있고, 생각보다
체계적으로 도움을 주셔서 생활하는데도 큰 문제 없이 잘 지내고 있습니다. 잠시 한국의 현실에서 벗어나서 살아있는 영어공부를 하고, 한국에서는 교류하기 힘든 외국인 친구들을 만나서 많은 성장을 하고 있습니다. 개인적으로 외국에서 사는 어학연수 시간이 인생에서 절대 잊지 못할 행복하고 꿈같은 기간으로 느껴져 여러분도 꼭 도전해봤으면 합니다.
