Conditional Admission
CCEL is the University of Canterbury official English language provider and academic pathway partner. CCEL partnership with the University of Canterbury (UC) provides students with a direct pathway to university study. CCEL students can join UC's Foundation Studies programme or one of their undergraduate or post graduate degree programs without taking the IELTS examination. When students enrol at CCEL, they may also apply to UC at the same time. Provided students meet the programme entry requirements UC will issue a conditional offer. Students who do not meet the English language requirements to enter UC can pathway to UC directly through an English for Academic Purposes - Pathway to UC (EAP) course at CCEL. EAP is for students who need to improve their academic English, develop the study skills required to succeed in tertiary study and gain the English language entry requirements to study at UC. Students who successfully complete an EAP course at CCEL (and meet UC's academic entry requirements) can transfer to one of UC's pre degree, undergraduate degree or post graduate degree programmes without taking IELTS.

Curriculum :
The General English course helps students to communicate
effectively and includes speaking, listening, reading and writing lessons. Students
will develop their vocabulary proficiency and discuss with their classmates on
different topics of new and current affairs. The full-time course also includes
the following afternoon optional classes: communication skills classes for
extra speaking and listening practice, and study skills classes for extra
reading and writing practice.

In a CCEL homestay students can experience the Kiwi lifestyle and practise English with their host family. All host families are inspected and selected by CCEL based on students' needs. Each will have their own furnished bedroom, breakfast and dinner everyday (plus lunch at weekend). Students can also chose from campus residence if they wish to meet other international students of CCEL.

New Zealand is famous for beautiful scenery, cultural activities and adventure sports. CCEL Christchurch’s activity programme is the perfect way to have fun and improve English. Activities include sports games, farm visits, International Antarctic center, professional rugby games, speech competitions and barbecues, free conversation club every week, excursions to Queenstown, Akaroa, Hanmer Springs and Kaikoura, horse riding, hiking, surfing, kitesurfing, skiing and snowboarding and Lyttelton Harbour cruise.
Getting to the school from the airport
If students are arriving in New Zealand for the first time and are intending to study for at least one semester ie February-July or July-December, or are a UCIC student, the University can arrange to have them picked up from the airport and delivered to their accommodation.This service is free but must be booked at least a week prior to the departure.
