Welcome to North Shore Language School (NSLS). We are a private academy specialising in English language training for second language speakers.In the most recent review NZQA reported they are ‘Highly Confident in the educational performance of NSLS. The completion rates for the NZCEL Level 3 and the Certificate in TESOL are consistently very high (between 92 and 97 per cent) and well exceed sector medians (NZQA EER Report, 2018).North Shore Language School opened in 2003. We are a well-known academy with an excellent reputation. We are NZQA approved and accredited and we have been given the highest rating of Highly Confident for educational performance. This was awarded to NSLS by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority in 2010, 2014 and again in 2018. This makes us a Category 1 school. This is an achievement that we are very proud of and we feel it reflects the professionalism of all staff and the high level of academic achievement that our students attain. We also pride ourselves on providing a warm, friendly, family-like atmosphere in which all students can happily learn. Our English language classes cater for students from Beginner level right up to our NZCEL and IELTS classes in which more advanced students can train in English and exam techniques. The classes are small (a maximum of 12 students) and this enables the tutors to give individual attention. The tutors aim to develop the students’ English language to a high level and also focus on building the students’ confidence to be able to use their English to communicate with others. Our New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) is an English language programme. It is suitable for students who want to learn English language as well as academic study skills such as note-taking in lectures, writing in a formal style, reading and understanding a range of texts, and speaking in everyday situations and in academic situations. NZCEL is an English Language qualification on the New Zealand Qualification Framework. We have operated our teacher education programmes (TESOL - Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) for ten years. During that time we have successfully trained and inspired many English language teachers. In the 2010, 2014 and 2018 NZQA reviews of North Shore Language School, the Language Teaching Course (TESOL) has been given the highest rating of Excellent. Reasons for this highest rating include the quality of tutors and the high level of student achievement. Our newest TESOL programme is the New Zealand Certificate in Language Teaching (Level 5). This is a qualification that has been developed by NZQA. It is the recommended base qualification for those who are or want to be a qualified language educator in NZ or overseas. The qualification develops the applied knowledge, skills and level of independence to be a professional language educator who has the ability to teach language in a range of educational settings. It is at a higher level than our previous TESOL qualification and will provide a lot of additional content, and new opportunities for practicing teaching. During your lessons you will learn new words (vocabulary), improve your grammar, reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. General English is taught at all levels from Beginners to Upper - Intermediate, having groups divided according to students' ongoing individual English achievements.
At NSLS we vary our teaching methods using videos and interesting course books as well as newspapers and magazines in the classroom.
In addition we encourage our students to discover the many outdoor activities in New Zealand so that they can speak and understand English in different.

Surrounding Area
NSLS is situated on the North Shore which is a beautiful part of Auckland. There are a number of beaches in the
local area. The closest beaches (Milford Beach and Takapuna Beach) are just a 5 minute drive away. We are on
main bus routes and close to convenient shopping areas. The North Shore is considered to be a very safe area
to live in and we are able to assist students in finding a homestay or other suitable accommodation.
