Bridge Mills Galway Language CentreAbout the
One of the unique features of Galway Language Centre is its location in The Bridge Mills, an 18th century mill situated on the River Corrib in the centre of Galway. From the school windows there is a superb view of the river below with its colonies of swans and wild birds, and in the distance, Galway Bay and the hills of Co. Clare. The school began in 1987 as a small group of teachers wishing to bring academic excellence and a high standard of personal attention to students visiting from overseas to study English in Galway. Over the past 20 years the school has expanded to the present year-round, adult school of 10 teachers and 60 students, but the school has never forgotten the principles of the early school. Galway Language Centre is especially proud of their teachers who are chosen for their experience in English language teaching and their knowledge of other cultures and languages. All hold university degrees and have post-graduate qualifications and overseas teaching experience. In classes of no more than 10 students, there is a warm and relaxed atmosphere that is both convivial and professional. Most importantly, the teachers genuinely enjoy their lessons and are committed to helping the students fulfil their academic goals, while introducing them to the charm and uniqueness of life on the West Coast of Ireland.

I was in Ireland Galway Language Center
for 7 months of General English Program. First of all, my linguistic study was
absolutely successful. I fell in love with Ireland, it is such a beautiful
country. The town I stayed was so pretty that I wanted to live here. First 2
months I stayed with an Irish family for home-stay. I was able to experience
the Irish culture and cuisine, so that was great. Next 2 months I lived with
friends in a flat. The flat was clean, so it was good to stay. Because it is a
shared apartment, students have chance to meet and be friends with other
international students. Also you know how much you miss and love your home.
School course starts off with a level test and class placement. There is a
level test in every 2 weeks. The class consists of dynamic activities, it isn’t
just lectures all the way, the teachers there help students to improve on what
they are weak at. If a student is weak at speaking, teachers will aid this
student by focusing more on communication, or if a student is weak at
vocabulary, teachers spend more time on vocabulary for the student. It is 20
hours a week, and mostly students learn general English. Through magazines or
books, student discuss in English. Overall, my experience in Ireland was great,
I was able to learn English and experience totally new environment at the same
time.
