Canadian International School of Hong KongAbout the
3Founded in 1991 by a group of prominent returnees from Canada, Canadian International School of Hong Kong is a non-profit, private, independent, coeducational day school located on the south side of Hong Kong Island in Aberdeen. We are proud of our innovative approach to education, our academic excellence and our strong extra-curricular and service programmes. CDNIS has served a growing and dynamic community for 30 years and ranks as one of Hong Kong’s most esteemed and well-respected private, international schools with a student population of over 1,800 and more than 300 faculty and staff.
Focus of Study : CDNIS is proud to be an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School and is committed to its PYP, MYP and DP programmes. Enhancing these programmes are the Early Years Bilingual Programme and the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) for high school students.
Benefit, Goal of this course : Canadian International School of Hong Kong is a continuum International Baccalaureate World School that offers all three of the most commonly offered IB programmes: The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), and the IB Diploma Programme (DP). CDNIS students from Early Years 1 to Grade 5 are PYP students; students from Grades 6 to 10 are MYP students; and students in Grades 11 and 12 are DP students. In addition, students in Grades 9-12 are enrolled simultaneously in the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and they achieve credits towards completing this diploma as they complete the MYP in Grades 9 and 10 and the DP in Grades 11 and 12. CDNIS students graduate with two diplomas: the DP from the International Baccalaureate and the OSSD from Ontario.
Curriculum : The term "curriculum" can encompass all of the learning experiences that a student has. Thus, it can be applied to lessons learned both in classes and outside of the classroom in interactions in the school community, assemblies, special events, school trips and extra curricular activities. This section of the website is devoted to CDNIS's documented curriculum, focusing on the subjects identified below. We are a through train, continuum IB school, offering the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme. Our CDNIS documented curriculum is a customized version of the Ontario curriculum that meets both Ontario and IB standards. For grades 9-12, and for several subjects from prep to grade 8 the curriculum comes directly from the Ontario documents. Some subjects in Preparatory (age 4/5) to Grade 8 follow our own CDNIS curriculum or a curriculum that we have adapted from Ontario and a few other sources. In grade 11 and 12, both the IB Diploma Programme curriculum and the Ontario curriculum are followed, resulting in our graduates earning both the IB Diploma and Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Our CDNIS curriculum provides a dynamic, comprehensive learning journey for our students as they develop and grow. The curricular expectations are based on students developing a conceptual understanding, developing skills and applying their learning in real-world contexts. Learning builds on the foundations set in previous years. Teachers collaboratively use the CDNIS documented curriculum as a foundation and leverage the Joy of Learning, our CDNIS definition of high quality teaching and learning as well as the frameworks/curriculum of the IB programmes to create motivating and enriching learning engagements and assessments for our students in subject-specific, interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary units.
