  Gymnasium Landschulheim KempfenhausenAbout the
The Kempfenhausen country school home in Kempfenhausen on Lake Starnberg is a public high school with an integrated boarding school and day care center and is therefore a specialty in the Bavarian school system. Along with 14 other Bavarian boarding schools, it fulfills the legal mandate of Article 106 BayEUG. Around 701 boys and girls currently attend the school, around 70 of whom live in boarding school. In 1855, the Royal Bavarian postmaster and inn owner Andreas Pellet from Starnberg built a country house with lakeside terraces, a large park, market garden and orchard in Kempfenhausen on the eastern shore of Lake Starnberg, on a farm he had purchased (see also: Villa Pellet ). In the summer of 1864, King Ludwig II rented Villa Pellet for his friend Richard Wagner, who was picked up from there every day by carriage to Munich or Berg Castle. After Andreas Pellet's death in 1866, his widow sold the property with the park and outbuildings to the Russian prince Alexander Bariatinsky, who had the house rebuilt and expanded in 1899. In 1907, the royal couple built a guest house (see also: Villa Pellet guest house ), which served as the director's house of the high school for a long time. In 1912 Prince Bariatinsky died. His widow left the property in 1914 due to the war; the property was confiscated. Countess Marguerite von Oberndorff was the owner from 1919 to 1930. The property then stood empty until the educator Elisabeth Hunaeus opened a “seminar for women’s education” in 1938. During the war it served as a children's home, later as an educational institution for kindergarten teachers, as a girls' middle school and as a household school. In 1967, the property with its approximately 30,000 square meter area became the property of the Bavarian Country School Homes Association. Elisabeth Hunaeus' educational institution was continued with a social science high school for girls and a technical school for social education ; For a few years there was also a secondary school and a technical high school for girls. From 1972 to 1975, the country school home also ran “Telekolleg for Educators” courses. In 1973 the technical school for social pedagogy was restructured into a specialist academy for social pedagogy ; but this then ceased operations in 1989. In 1981, a mathematics and natural sciences branch was added to the high school, and in 1988 an economics branch was added. The school was an all- girls school until co-education was introduced in 1981.
