  Franken-Landschulheim Schloss GaibachAbout the
A school in Gaibach Castle has its origins in the school shortage after the Second World War. Many school buildings were destroyed and the many refugee children had to be taught. Under the leadership of the Munich City School Councilor Anton Fingerle, the Bavarian Country School Homes Association was founded, which was dedicated to the grievances and from then on made so-called country school homes available to the students as places of instruction, far away from the cities. The grounds of the count's castle in Gaibach were suitable for this idea because it had been empty for decades. The owners, the Counts of Schönborn, had already moved their residence to Wiesentheid in the 18th century and the castle was used as emergency accommodation for refugees in 1945. The special purpose association set up a “upper secondary school for boys and girls” in the buildings. A boarding school was also founded. School operations began on September 14, 1949 with 120 internal and 70 external students in five classes. In 1956, the first class was able to graduate with their Abitur. At the beginning, the rooms in the Schönbornschloss were sufficient, and in 1956 another school building was built in the extensive park. A short time later the first sports field was opened. The natural sciences section followed in 1957. With the decision of December 5, 1959, the school changed its profile and was henceforth run as a humanistic high school with a secondary school. The reorganization was followed by further renovations, and the commercial wing was inaugurated in 1963. A complete school building expansion followed from 1964 to 1967, and in 1969 a gymnasium was opened on the park grounds. In 1974, the so-called college building was added to provide more classrooms for the growing number of students. Previously, in the 1972/73 school year, a branch of the high school was set up in the buildings of the former vocational school in Gerolzhofen with fifth to tenth grades. In 1969, the offering in Gaibach was expanded with the opening of a four-level secondary school. It initially had four levels and was only open to boys. Over time it was expanded to a six-grade school for both genders. In 1977, the Franken-Landschulheim had more than 1,000 students for the first time. This made further additions necessary in the 1980s. The economics branch was introduced for the first time in 1984/85. In 1992, the completely rebuilt school buildings in the south of the castle were inaugurated. The former aristocratic residence now houses the boarding school rooms.
