Hamburg is one of the most beautiful cities in the north European region and impresses its visitors as a unique work of art due to its uniform style of architecture. Every year more and more tourists discover the elegant charm of the city. It is in the Northern part of Germany where people speak high-German (without any area dialect). The Colón Language Center was founded in 1952 and is nowadays one of the biggest language schools in Germany. These days the school was only a Spanish school for Germans, today they teach 18 languages. Teaching ‘German as a foreign language‘ is the main business of Colón Language Center. The school and its own residence are located in the city center of Hamburg. Number of class-rooms: 70. The residence is located in the same building. Students can visit the photogalerie and see some pictures of the school + residence! Colón‘s advantageous location directly in the city center in Hamburg‘s oldest pedestrian zone ‘Colonnaden‘ inspires all students and enables them to offer a perfect learning and living atmosphere.

Shared apartment This type of accommodation is for students who wish to travel on a low budget. To share an apartment with somebody is a common way in Germany for young people to reduce the costs of living when they have their first flat or are still university students for example. Germans who share their apartment are young (in the majority under the age of 30), either university students or job beginners, single or a couple. Or they are already an existing ‚flat-sharing community‘ who look for a new flatmate. All shared apartments are inspected by Colón staff! Suitable for language students who wish to be independent and are prepared to arrange all things for living by themselves, like going shopping, cooking, doing the washing, cleaning their room etc.
Shared Apartment in Hamburg Minimum age: 18 years, Minimum stay: 4 weeks Arrival day: Sunday, departure day: Saturday Single room with bed, table, chair and closet, Shared bath-room and shared living-room, Shared kitchen, Self-catering, Included: bed sheets, towels, hosts might ask the students to pay a deposit, which they will get back after their stay. Arrival day at the shared apartment is Sunday before the course starts, departure day is Saturday after the last day of school.
German Host family: The families offer their clients a special opportunity to practice their German after school and on the weekends. The school only works with selected families and they include their foreign guests in their daily life. The students have their meals with the family and they only talk in German. The average distance from the school is about 20 minutes by bus or underground (maximum up to 45 minutes). All host families live in pleasant residential areas of Hamburg in different parts of the city.

Colón is located in down-town Hamburg, in a nice and quiet pedestrian area: Colonnaden Hamburg is among the beautiful cities in the world! THe old trade city was founded in 810 and today has about 1.7 million inhabitants. Magnificent offices owned by long-establised tradersand shipowners, as well as the imposing town hall are remindrs of te city's Hanseatic trading tradition. The city center is built around Lake Alster: pedestrian zones and squares, shopping streets, street cafes, restaurants and midieval churches. The city has a subtle maritime and refined atmosphere. Hamburg is an exceptionally green city wit hlarge parks and gardens. As an international harbour and trade city with global connections and partnerships Hamburg is Germany's Gateway to the World. With 98 coulates, Hamburg is the city with the most consulates in the world. Hamburg offers culture for everybody: musicals, classical music, opera and ballet, various theaters, museums and art galleries. Students will also find entertainment on the Reeperbahn, in popular and waterfront pubs and in multiplex cinemas.

The school has its handsome buildings in the old European style in one of the main pedestrian zones in the city of Hamburg. We have 70 classrooms.

Getting to the school from the airport
AIRPORT HAMBURG-FUHLSBÜTTEL
S-Bahn: The train station for the line S1 is located unde r the airport. The S1 line runs from the airport in the north of the city through the main station Hauptbahnhof in the city centre to Blankenese/Wedel in the west. You can change to all other lines in the main station. It takes 25 minutes to reach the main station and costs 3,30 €.
Trains leave every 10 minutes Monday to Friday
between 06:00 and 23:00 and Saturday to Sunday 07:30 to 23:00. Outside these times trains from the airport run every 20 minutes. The last train from the airport leaves at 00:14.
Taxi: The taxi stop is in front of Terminal 1. The taxi cabs in Germany are beige (off-white). It takes 20 to 30 minutes from the airport to the city centre and it will cost about 15,00 to 30,00 €.
