IEFE - UNIVERSITÉ PAUL-VALÉRY MONTPELLIERAbout the
Since 1948, our institute, which focuses on international openness and exchanges, has been helping foreign students learn French.Choosing the IEFE means enrolling in a course of excellence in linguistic and cultural immersion, in the privileged living environment of the south of France. Our mission: to provide our students with quality teaching and to make them ambassadors of the French language throughout the world!
Grammar, written and oral comprehension and production skills aligned with the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL) . To determine a student’s language level, a placement test is organised upon arrival (for those without DELF/DALF or ADCUEFE centre diplomas only ). Textbooks corresponding to the student’s level will be given out during the first lesson.
Compulsory optional courses
From level B1 onwards, optional courses are available to acquire either specific language skills (French for economic and social life, business French, French for science...) or cultural skills (literature, theatre, cinema, art history). 2 compulsory courses must be chosen.
Cultural activities
The teaching team offers a full programme of cultural activities to discover French culture, Montpellier and the surrounding area. Sightseeing opportunities abound here: Nîmes and the Pont du Gard, Carcassonne and the Lastours, Perpignan and Collioure castles, Baux de Provence and the Salins du Midi, Arles and the Camargue Regional Natural Park, the Couvertoirade, the Millau Viaduct and the Roquefort cheese cellars.

NIVEAU 2 a student who has completed 200 hours of French education 12H French education + 3h (2 subjects) Art, history, civilization, literature, language and culture
NIVEAU 3 a student who has completed 400 hours of French class 11h, French education, 3h (2 subjects): art, civilization, language and culture, literature
NIVEAU 4 a student who has completed more than 600 hours
NIVEAU 5 Students who have completed 750-800 hours or more 10h: Writing, Speaking, Grammar + 4h30: Literature, Economics, French Culture, Advanced Conversation Learning

Unless you have received information stating otherwise and depending on the mobility programme through which you are coming to Montpellier for a semester or a year of study, you are entitled to apply for housing within the framework of our partnership with the CROUS Montpellier Occitanie.
CAUTION: Because we have a limited amount of available stock, housing will be allocated to students on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis.

Surrounding Area
Montpellier is a city in southern France, 10km inland from the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The town's stately Gothic Cathédrale Saint-Pierre, distinguished by conical towers, dates to 1364.
