Starting in 2017/18, all Foundation Diploma in Art and Design students who successfully complete the year will be guaranteed an offer for an undergraduate course at one of our 6 Colleges.
Curriculum
You can choose to study a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design in either ‘diagnostic’ or ‘specialist’ mode.
Most students study in diagnostic mode, benefitting from the opportunity to explore a variety of disciplines to help decide their future direction. This mode introduces you to a broad range of creative areas such as painting, sculpture, photography, film, graphics, illustration, architecture, 3D design, fashion and textiles.
If you are confident in your future direction, you can follow a particular pathway from the beginning of the course and specialise further later in the year.

Residence
Halls of residence are available to all students who have been offered a place on a course at UAL.
Students should pick their top 5 halls of residence when applying. We will try to place you in one of your top 5 halls, but we cannot guarantee this will be possible. Please make sure you send in your application early to avoid disappointment.
Applications from disabled students and those under the age of 18, will be prioritised. Please notify us of any special requirements you have on your accommodation application.
Foundation year students work on a different timetable to most other courses but they are still encouraged to book a place in halls.
Surrounding Area
High Holborn (HH) is the main hub of the Fashion Business School. It is also where you’ll find the Student Union, ArtsTemps, and the Blueprint café. It is a 20 minute walk to JPS and 10 minutes to Covent Garden and all that has to offer.
Facilities
University of the Arts London prides itself on the variety and quality of its facilities, from state-of-the-art design suites to traditional print studios.
Students can access the libraries, Learning Zones, cafes, shops and galleries at any of UAL’s sites, as long as they can show their ID card.
