Location
Accommodation
Students have choices of living in off-campus
residences or Homestay houses. For students who prefer living independently,
off-campus residences have more privacy and give students opportunities to meet
people outside of the campus. The school also arranges homestays for students
who want to experience local culture and practice English in their daily life
as a member of a family. Students can make their housing arrangements as early
as possible due to the limited amount of space available
Surrounding Area
The school is located in Wimbledon, a popular
and beautiful suburban community close to London. Wimbledon has been
internationally known as the home of the “Wimbledon Tennis Championships”.
Wimbledon is also only 20minutes from London by train, and it is known for its
relaxed but friendly atmosphere. Students can easily find shops and restaurants
located near the school. The school is situated in a quiet and safe residential
area where students can relax and study enjoying beautiful sceneries. CES
Wimbledon center offers the best of both London city and beautiful Wimbledon
suburb.
Facilities
The school has 11 bright and comfortable rooms
along with a student lounge with TV and study area, listening center, computer
room and more.
Activity
Students can always engage in diverse outdoor
activities in Wimbledon, or go out to London and enjoy shopping, touring,
exploring restaurants, going to parties, and many more.
I went to CES for 6
months to take Intensive English course. Wimbledon is little away from London.
It’s really quiet there, so it is a good environment to study. The city is
really clean and beautiful. The residence area is even pretty too. Moreover, London
is really close to the city, so you can travel to London any time. I was
worried because I studied with American English style, and it would be hard for
me to adapt to a proper English in England. That was nonsense, now I speak and understand
British style English. British accent is really charming. Intensive course
consists of 30 lessons per week. The course is really focused and because the
teacher is native, it is easy to learn English. Teachers encouraged me to speak
more and to be confident in English. The focus of the study consists
confidence. Throughout the course, I got close to many friends and I was
invited to parties. It was really fun. My English speaking improved very much,
and I wish I stayed there for another half a year, that would have improved my English
dramatically.
I studied in
Centre of English Studies (CES) Wimbledon. I was going to go to London, but
because London is quite expensive, I chose a city that is a little further away
from London. Wimbledon is much quieter than London. It is only 20 minutes away
from London by train, so it was easy to go to London in weekends. Next step was
choosing an institution or a school. I knew that CES is virtually everywhere,
so it is well known, so I thought it would provide an adequate English courses.
CES programs were brilliant too, I took Intensive English course, and the aim
of this course is to boost confidence in English. The program makes you speak
out loud in front of class and people. For example, you can talk about what you
saw on TV last night, or a movie, and also have a discussion. You also get to
speak about the book you are assigned to read, and sometimes students talk
about just daily life. As results, you just get to speak a lot, and this helps
you to have confidence in English and your speaking naturally improves through consistent
speaking. Of course there are grammar, reading and writing classes, so it isn’t
all speaking. Moreover, you don’t have to worry about your English level, I was
too, but when you get here, you have to take a level test. So you get assigned
to suitable class, and if you are still not confident with your class, you can
start from level 1. Furthermore, surely you have to focus in class, but what’s
more important is to have fun and enjoy your life in Wimbledon, because your English
naturally improves through practice with real natives here. Trying not to think
you are ‘studying’ is the key. If you just accept the English and be confident
with speaking to strangers, English is no problem. I strongly recommend
Wimbledon CES!
