Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU, previously operating as, and presently legally incorporated as, Ryerson University)is a public research university located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The university's core campus is situated within the Garden District, although it also operates facilities elsewhere in Toronto. The university operates seven academic divisions/faculties, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Community Services, the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, the Faculty of Science, The Creative School, the Lincoln Alexander School of Law, and the Ted Rogers School of Management. Many of these faculties are further organized into smaller departments and schools. The university also provides continuing education services through the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education.

The institution was established in 1948 as the Ryerson Institute of Technology, named after Egerton Ryerson—a prominent contributor to the design of the Canadian public school system whose views later influenced the development of the Canadian Indian residential school system following his death. In 1964, the institution was reorganized under provincial legislation, and renamed Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. Under that name, the institution was granted limited degree-granting powers during the 1970s. The institution was reorganized into a full-fledged university in 1993, and renamed Ryerson Polytechnic University. In 2002, several years after the university's school of graduate studies was established, the university adopted the name Ryerson University. In 2021, the university announced it would be renamed due to reconciliation of Egerton Ryerson's involvement in the residential school system. The school's new name of Toronto Metropolitan University was announced in 2022; however, pending the announcement some students referred to the school as X University.

The university is a co-educational institution, with approximately 44,400 undergraduates and 2,950 graduate students enrolled there during the 2019–20 academic year. As of 2017, TMU had nearly 170,000 alumni. The university's athletics department operates several varsity teams that play as the Ryerson Rams, competing in the Ontario University Athletics conference of U Sports.

HOEM on Jarvis

HOEM is owned and managed by Ryerson’s close partner, Canadian Student Communities Inc (“HOEM”).  All administrative aspects and decision making regarding your stay at HOEM, including the terms of the contract such as withdrawals, applications, and fee collection are managed through the staff on site at HOEM

The residence life and service desk teams, which are largely made up of students who work as amazing leaders to welcome and support you throughout the year will also be managed and operated by HOEM. Many of them will be living in the building, alongside you, as you navigate your time at the HOEM residence.

Commuter Hostel

Students: $35/night for one person, no taxes.  

Payment made via RAMSS. 

Staff/faculty: $60+HST/night for one person +HST

Toronto, the capital of the province of Ontario, is a major Canadian city along Lake Ontario’s northwestern shore. It's a dynamic metropolis with a core of soaring skyscrapers, all dwarfed by the iconic, free-standing CN Tower. Toronto also has many green spaces, from the orderly oval of Queen’s Park to 400-acre High Park and its trails, sports facilities and zoo. 

Daphne Cockwell Complex (DCC)

The Daphne Cockwell Complex (DCC) is open to all first-year applicants. DCC is our newest building on campus (opened Fall 2019). Residence apartments are located above the first 8 floors of the building, which are used for academic purposes. Residence space includes 19 floors and 332 rooms. DCC features a study lounge on every other floor, as well as central laundry and a large community space on the 8th floor. The building will also be equipped with a residence service desk, as a secure access point at the entrance to the residence tower that is staffed 24/7.

As with all of our residence buildings, first-year students are given priority for DCC housing.

International Living/Learning Centre (ILC)

The International Living/Learning Centre (ILC) is open to all first-year applicants. You do not have to be an international student to live here, and international students can live in any of the residence buildings at Ryerson. The ILC is an 11-storey, former hotel built in 1987 and can accommodate 256 residence students in its extra-large rooms. The ILC also features: a community kitchenette on each floor, a common lounge with cable TV, and laundry facilities. There is also a cafeteria and lounge space on the main floor of the building. 

Pitman Hall (PIT)

Pitman Hall was built in 1991 and is Ryerson’s 2nd largest residence, with 14 floors and 565 rooms. Pitman Hall features a community kitchenette on each floor, a common lounge with cable TV, and laundry facilities. The main floor houses: a cafeteria, the Housing & Residence Life offices. The second floor has community lounges for larger events. Outside of Pitman Hall is the Pitman Quad; a small green space for students to access.
