East Coast Language College (ECLC)About the
Donna-Lynn Leblanc and Sheila Nunn are the owners of ECLC and they are in the college every day because they still love what they do! They are passionate about supporting students and staff and empowering people to achieve their goals. Donna and Sheila are supported by an amazing team of administrators, instructors, homestay families, and other partners. These relationships are the key to ECLC’s success.
ECLC opened its doors in 1998 and started with humble beginnings – three classrooms, three teachers, and three students! We grew by word of mouth because students loved the personal attention they received and the high academic quality of the classes. Students trust us – we deliver what we say we will – and they know they will be treated with respect and kindness. Our staff members all adhere to the same important values because they are also passionate about the support and success of our students.
Focus of Study English for Parents (EP) is a three-level program aimed at providing parents of school-aged children with solid foundational English. In addition, EP helps parents learn the everyday English they need to thrive in Canadian society.Using different themes, the students will be given opportunities to practice the new language through role plays, discussions, presentations and outings.

-Understanding Canadian government, laws and policies
Curriculum -EP 100 focuses on essential English skills such as making greetings and introductions; asking for and giving personal information; describing activities and daily routines; expressing opinions, agreement and disagreement
- EP 200 builds on the skills learned in EP 100 and includes topics such as expressing feelings and emotions; agreeing and disagreeing with others; describing present and past events and special occasions; discussing opinions about image, appearance, and fashion
EP 300 expands upon the skills learned in EP 200 and focuses on topics such as comparing places and making recommendations; talking about achievements and experiences; communicating plans, intentions and ambitions; discussing consequences of future actions

Benefit, Goal of this course Using an assortment of techniques such as community integration, team projects, and interactive activities, the students will learn practical language and vocabulary that will help them in any setting in which English is necessary.
Curriculum - Basics :This course gives students a foundation in speaking and listening in English.
- EC100 :This course builds on the foundation set by Communications Basics. These high-beginner students increase their confidence and fluency in this course, working towards drawing from more language structures and vocabulary than in CB.
- EC200 : This course encourages low-intermediate students to improve their lexical resource, fluency, accuracy, comfort level, and confidence when using English in realistic situations.
- Dynamic Speaking: Our Dynamic Speaking course focuses on naturally and accurately using English in various situations students may encounter in Canada and other English-speaking countries.
- Creative English: This course is broken up into four five-week courses – Visual Arts, Food, Music, and Media –which contain many task-based learning activities that help connect the students to each other and Canadian communities.

Unlike other major urban centers, more than 90% of the population in Halifax speaks English so it’s the perfect place for students to immerse themselves in the language and learn faster.
Everything that a big city like Toronto or Montreal has can be found in Halifax. Restaurants, cafes, nightclubs, sports arenas, art galleries, museums and so on are here. People here enjoy live music in traditional Celtic eateries and Halifax has a very vibrant “patio culture” where bars and restaurants build outdoor seating so everyone can enjoy the summer weather. There are six universities and four major colleges in Halifax with over 50,000 students living and studying here. Students love the young urban vibe.
Halifax is also famous for its wonderful culinary scene. Restaurants, food trucks, patios and food festivals are very popular here. It is world-famous for its incredible seafood. Nova Scotia lobster is a must-have for any visitor and its restaurants serve up the freshest Nova Scotia scallops and creative seafood dishes year-round.
Halifax is really an education city, with the benefit that life outside of class time is very exciting, and local shopping, dining, and nightlife is all within walking distance of the school district. So students can immediately begin enjoying their free time right after classes and will need to use their English as it is difficult to find foreign speakers in the city. This way, their learning experience continues even while they’re outside of school and helps them to become more fluent, faster.
