Discover English was formed in Melbourne in February 2010 with the objective of being one of Australia's premier English language colleges.Our courses attract students from a range of countries all over the world - see what nationalities are represented here. The General English program develops students’ English language communication skills. There is a strong focus on building confidence and fluency. Above all, in a friendly and fun environment! Through a communicative approach, students practice their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Furthermore there are opportunities to learn these skills in a variety of ‘real life’ situations.
Studying General English gives students the confidence and skills to function in an English speaking country. Some may even consider going on to further study or examination preparation courses.
Discover English, Melbourne offers six levels of General English from Beginner to Advanced. Our Beginner level class accepts students with very little exposure to English. For example, students who have not yet acquired a single word. No one’s level is too low. In contrast, our Advanced General English class is for students with high level communicative skills.
General English students undertake a placement test to determine their entry point. Students may be recommended to take a change of level test at any stage of their enrolment. Importantly, this is based on in-class assessment results.

We have an extensive homestay network that benefits students by introducing them to Australian culture and family life. Homestay facilitates cultural exchange and provides students with the opportunity to constantly practise English with Australian families. Students learn about Australian culture by immersing themselves in it, experiencing new food, activities, and attitudes.Discover English approves all homestay providers and places students according to individual needs and preferences where possible. All homestays are located in Zone 1. There are two options available:
Half board: Includes breakfast and dinner weekdays and 3 meals on weekends.Room only: Single room with no meals, but students can have access to the kitchen.
Homestay Half Board $320 (weekly)
Homestay Room Only $300 (weekly)
Student Lodge Prices Vary
The lodge offers many great facilities including table tennis, billiards, student bar and restaurant, resort-style swimming pool and barbecue area.
The rooms for students include a microwave oven for heating up meals and there are also fully equipped kitchens where you can cook with other students and share costs. The lodge also offers a mix of free and cheap social activities like movie nights and barbecues so you can enjoy a great social life at a very low cost.
