Conditional Admission
You may enter Nevada universities at the undergraduate level without English proficiency test score (TOEFL, IELTS, PEARSON) after completing the IELC program. If you are already academically qualified for university admission (undergraduate) but you do not have the required English proficiency score, you may receive conditional admission to your university program. Your admission documents will state that you will begin academic coursework after completion of the English requirement.

For over 20 years the Intensive English Language Center (IELC) has been teaching students the English language skills needed to enroll in United States colleges and universities, as well as providing instruction to students wishing to improve their general English ability for professional or personal reasons. Established in 1982 the Intensive English Language Center (IELC) provides English language instruction to students preparing for university study and to students wishing to improve their general English ability. IELC is located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno. We teach you the language and the study skills necessary for university level study; help you transition from the English as a second language to academic studies; introduce you to American culture and university life.The IELC has three main goals: to teach the necessary academic, language and study skills to succeed at a university level, to introduce students to American culture and university life, and to help students make an effective transition from English as a Second Language to university-level studies. IELC students gain full access to the University’s campus facilities and can enjoy using the University libraries, the Writing Center for free tutoring, the Women’s Resource Center, the student health center, computer labs with Internet access and the campus sports facilities including indoor sports courts, swimming pools, a running track and gymnasiums. IELC staff and faculty are dedicated to making sure that you have a rewarding and exciting experience while you are studying with us. Students are able to meet the majority of their needs right on campus.

By 1958, with 2,000 students attending classes, the institution was on the verge of dramatic change. New colleges of education and business were in their first years. The student body, which had not had a student center building for the first 70 years of the University's tenure in Reno, finally had a headquarters with the opening of the Jot Travis Student Union. This union was replaced In November 2007 by the Joe Crowley Student Union, one of the most transformational buildings ever built on campus. This 167,000-square-foot, "green" environmentally friendly facility signals a shift in campus expansion, offering the campus and community a new centrally located "front door" to the University from Virginia Street. It is named in honor of University President Joe Crowley, whose 23-year tenure as the institution's chief executive is a record. In 2008, one of the nation's most technologically advanced libraries, the Mathewson-IGT Knowledge Center, opened next to the Crowley Student Union, further signaling the campus' move north. President Charles Armstrong and vice president William Wood stimulated research programs on campus in 1959 with the creation of the Desert Research Institute (DRI) and its affiliated programs of atmospheric physics, desert biology, anthropological studies, computer science and water resources. DRI was a University division focusing on research examining Nevada's arid land resources. By 1969, under President N. Edd Miller, the campus had doctoral programs in more than a dozen specialties, and had created a School of Medical Sciences. In the last 35 years, the University has met the challenges of leadership in what is now the fastest-growing state in the country, with its enrollment rising to more than 17,000 students in fall 2010.
There are nine different dormitories on campus offering a variety of living styles and meal plans. Remember, the dormitories are generally quite full and early reservations are very important. Currently, there is no homestay program at the university. Off-campus housing is available near the campus, however these arrangements must be made by the student. Our office is happy to assist you with this process if needed.

There is a wide variety of housing available in Reno for both married and single students: on-campus housing is arranged through the UNR Residential Life, Housing and Food Service. After receiving your application form, we will send you a campus housing application. We will also include a list of apartments, all within walking distance of classes and on the University bus routes.
Surrounding Area
Reno Nevada University is located in downtown Reno in Northern Nevada. Northern Nevada is full of lively history as well as world renowned events and entertainment. Virginia Street in Downtown not only has social events and gambles, but also has other activities. Reno will intrigue its visitors as it has captivated others and has recieved the title of ʺWorld's Biggest Rural Cityʺ. Reno has amazing libraries, museum, artistic galaries, parks and many more sites that attract numerous tourists and residents. 16,000 students enrolled in Reno Nevada University greatly contribute to Reno community's diversity and artistic aspects. Diverse artistic works are available all year around, and they have also become a great part of Reno to make it a world class tourist site. Reno is 1500m from sea level, and students will be able to enjoy more than 300 sunny days a year. Annual precipitation is approximately 12 inches, and students can visit Lake Taho for more than 15 accessible ski courses.
