With over 2,300 faculty members and 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students, Case Western Reserve University was fist established in 1826 as Western Reserve University. The school has changed its name to Case Western Reserve University in 1967 as a private research university in Cleveland. Case Western Reserve's with over 60 majors ranked 37th among national universities in US News& World Report's. The university is approximately five miles east of downtown Cleveland in University Circle. It is contained within a 550 acre area with numerous educational, medical and cultural institutions. Surrounding Area
ELS/Cleveland is located on the campus of Case Western Reserve University, a prestigious private university that is consistently ranked in the top 50 national universities by US News and World Report. The center is located in University Circle, the premier urban district of Cleveland, which was recently named one of the most beautiful places in the USA by Forbes magazine. Nowhere on earth can one find the same concentration of education, health care, arts, and cultural institutions located in one city neighborhood. The combination of ultra modern architecture alongside 19th century mansions, all located in a green, park-like setting, gives this area a very distinctive atmosphere. And the historic Little Italy, with many restaurants, shops and galleries, is just a short walk away. The warehous3e District of Cleveland includes restaurants, cafes, and nightclubs. There are museums including the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Cleveland Art Museum. Cedar Point, third largest amusement park in the US and number one roller coaster park in the word is located nearby. 제가 다녀왔던 프로그램은 아카데믹 영어 프로그램 (English for Academic Purposes)이며, 28주동안 다녀왔습니다.
일단 저는 이 프로그램 이후로 미국에 있는 대학교에 조건부 입학을 하기 위해서 지원을 했구요.
미리 밑거름을 마련해 두기 위해서 결정을 했습니다.
해외에서 공부해 본 경험이 없기때문에 일단은 어떤것인지 먼저 알고 싶었고 두려움도 없애고 싶은 마음도 있었습니다.
12개의 레벨을 마치면 전과정 이수 인증문서가 발급을 받게 되는데 저는 그것을 최종 목표로 두었습니다.
일단은 학생들은 입학을 하게 되면 공통적으로 읽기/쓰기 레슨과 언어센터 수업을 듣게 되며 초보자 (101-103 레벨)들과 중급자 (108-109 레벨)들은 문장구조/말하기
수업과 영단어, 고급자 (110-112 레벨) 등으로 나뉘게 되어서 수업을 받게 되는데 그 부분이 참 좋았습니다. 다 같이 수업을 듣는 방법이 아닌 일단 실력을 기반으로 반을 나누어서 수업을 받는 부분이라서 제가 부족한 부분들을 더 채워 갈 수 있는 부분이었다 생각합니다.
저는 처음에 INTERMEDIATE (104 - 106) 레벨로 시작을 하다가 나중에 나아가서는 한단계 높은 것인 ADVANCED 수업으로 변경을 하였습니다.
아무래도 해외에서 외국인들과 같이 공부를 하다보니까 더 열심히 할 수 있었던거 같고 자연적으로 영어에 노출이 되니 더 빠르게 늘었던 좋은 이유라고 생각합니다.
그리고 숙박은 기숙사에서 묵게 되었습니다.
나중에 미국에 와서도 혼자 나와서 살아야 할거같아서 자립심을 키우기 위해서 선택한 것이구요, 참 좋았습니다.
기숙사에서 거주하는 학생들이 많은 편이라서 친구들을 사귈 수 있는 기회가 더 많았습니다.
그것 덕분에 친구들도 많이 사귈수도 있었습니다.
스토브, 냉장고, 식기 세척기, 기본적인 조리기구, 주방기구, 식기 및 접시등은 주방에서 제공하기때문에 카페테리아도 이용하고
그리고 음식을 사와서 간단하게 조리도 해 먹을 수 있어서 비용적인 면에서도 좋았습니다.
세탁 시설과 피트니스 공간은 건물에 위치하여 사용하였구요 이번 어학연수를 통해서 확실히 자립심을 키울 수 있었습니다.
