I attended New York University without the assistance from the institution. I was worried first because of communication but the site actually provided a lot of assistance so I had no trouble during the studies.
1. Quality of Lesson - Haven’t had SCPS marketing lessons so I will tell you about the morning English classes! - Morning class starts from 9 to 12, afternoon classes start from 1 to 3. Reading and writing classes on Mondays and Wednesdays, listening and speaking on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Each part of English is taught by different teachers who specialize in their parts. I definitely had the feeling that it will be more effective this way because when it comes to real exam it will be easier. I also liked NYU program which was more ‘academic’ sides as it was held by the school. The teacher tries to communicate with the students so it was more interesting and it is talk-oriented lessons. Unlike morning classes, you get to choose the lessons that you are interested in. I chose TOEFL and newspaper reading classes which were very satisfactory.
2. Dormitory Facility - Britanny is not up to standard compared to Palladium, where I used to live during the summer vacations. But the biggest advantage of NYU dorm is that you actually get to live with the NYU students. When I first started to live in the dormitory I could not get close with my roommate however, after sharing some Korean foods and communicating we got along pretty well. Most of rooms in NYU dorm are composed of 2 rooms and shared living room but the one that I am living in has a room for two people and 3 people in living room. Some people may find it pretty uncomfortable but for me it was just fine!
3. How to get to NYU from dormitory - NYU buildings are all separated from each other especially ALI ones. Usually dormitory is close to the NYU buildings but Woolworth building that we have lesson at is pretty far so it is good to take trains. R (yellow) line downtown lanes will take you to city hall or take the 6 (green) lane and stop at the Brooklyn bridge. Depending on your NYU dorm location, choose your train lane. It was pretty confusing at first but got used to it pretty quick. New York has great ‘street system’ so you will have no difficulty finding streets. And I love the weather these days so I sometimes take a walk which cost me around 30~40 minutes and for train it only takes 10.

저는 유학원 도움없이 스스로 준비를 하여 뉴욕대학교를 진학하였었어요. 처음에는 대화하는 부문에 걱정이 되었었는데 지원한 사이트에서 비자까지 많은 도움을 주셔서 너무 순조롭게 어학연수를 다녀올수 있었어요.
1. 수업의 질
아직 SCPS 마케팅 수업은 안들어봐서 오전 영어수업에 관한 말씀만 드릴게요!
오전수업은 9시부터 12시, 오후수업은 1시부터 3시 이렇게 진행되는데요. 오전수업은 월 수는 Reading and writing, 화 목은 Listening and speaking 을 집중적으로 배울 수 있게 선생님도 각각 있어요. 확실히 레벨이 높을수록 수준이 높아져서 가능하면 시험칠 때 신중하게 잘쳐서 높은 레벨에서 수업을 듣는게 더 효과적일 거라는 생각이 들었어요. nyu 프로그램은 확실히 학교에서 하는 프로그램이라서 그런지 좀 더 academic해서 저한테는 좋았어요. 선생님께서도 같이 호흡하려고 질문 많이 던지시고 대화하는 형식으로 진행될 때도 많았구요. 반면에 오후수업 자신이 관심있는 분야를 선택해서 들을 수 있는데 저는 TOEFL수업도 들어보고 신문읽기 수업도 들어봤는데 전반 적으로 만족스러웠어요. 흥미를 위한 과목이든 학습을 위한 과목이든 전반적으로 좋았어요.
2. 기숙사 시설
여름방학때 살았던 Palladium은 아주 만족스러웠던 것에 반해, 솔직히 지금 머물고 있는 Brittany 는 그리 좋은편은 아니에요. 하지만 nyu 기숙사의 가장 큰 장점은 시설을 떠나서 nyu학생들과 함께 산다는 점이 좋은 경험이라고 생각해요. 처음 왔을때는 roomate와 많이 가까워지지 못했지만 한국음식도 만들어주면서 대화도 나누고 문화도 공유할 수 있었어요. 지금 바뀐 기숙사에서는 roomate들도 편해져서 학교식당에 같이 가서 밥도 먹고 대화도 나누고 한답니다. 대부분 nyu기숙사가 방 2개에 거실을 공유하고 방 1개에 두명씩 지내는 방식인데 지금 기숙사는 거실에 3명이 살고, 방1에 2명이 살고있구요 화장실은 공유해야하구요. 그렇지만 오래지내다보면 생각보다 불편하거나 그런 것 없이 익숙해지더라구요. 저는 만족해요!
3. 기숙사에서 nyu 찾아가는 방법
nyu 는 모든 건물들이 따로 떨어져있는데 특히 ALI 수업 듣는 건물은 더 떨어져있어요. 보통은 기숙사가 nyu건물과 가깝지만 우리가 수업듣는 woolworth 건물은 조금 멀리 있는 편이라 지하철을 이용해야해요. R (노란색) line downtown 을 타고 내려가서 city hall역에서 내리거나 6(초록색)호선 downtown 을 타고 내려가서 Brooklyn bridge역에서 내려도 되구요. nyu기숙사가 여러곳이라서 기숙사에 따라 지하철을 선택하면 될 것같아요. 생각보다 어렵지 않은게 저도 처음왔을때는 많이 헤맸지만 곧 익숙해지더라구요. 뉴욕은 street 개념이 잘 되어있어서 길 찾는데 큰 어려움은 없어요. 요즘 날씨가 좋아서 저는 걸어다니는데 도보로는 30 40분정도 걸리구요, 지하철로는 10분 정도 걸리구요.
午前中の授業は9時から12時、午後は1時から3時にあります。午前中の授業は月と水はReading and writing、火木は、Listening and speakingを集中的に学ぶことができるように先生方もそれぞれ準備しています。確かにレベルが高いほどレベルが高くなり、可能であれば試験受ける時に慎重によく受けて高いレベルの授業を受けるのがより効果的であるという情報を聞きました。 nyuプログラムは、確かに学校でのプログラムなので、私はacademicにして良かったです。先生方も一緒に勉強する取り組み組でたくさんの質問したりされたり、会話する形式で進行される時も多かったです。一方、午後の授業、自分が興味のある分野を選択して聞くことができ、私はTOEFLの授業も含まれて新聞を読む授業も含まれた授業も受けたので満足でした。興味のある科目も学習するための科目あり全体的に良かったです。
Could not tell if I was lucky or unlucky for having two speaking class as my preference was completely reflected in. Well, I tried to change one of them but both the speaking class was exceptionally good and one of the professor was very academic and professional. I really liked the way he teaches because I got to learn a lot of idioms and article reading skills by reading New York Times in the syllabus.
I think I will need to purchase a new phone as the USIM card does not work when I inserted into the phone that I had in Korea. I will let you know later. Everything has been set up but certification class starts from next week but ALI program sounds really good. Especially the elective classes in the afternoon are very interesting (speaking/speech, pronunciation class).

speaking class가 2개인 건 학교측에서 정한게아니라 학생들이 선호도를 적어서 하는건데 제가 운이 좋은건지 나쁜건지
두 개다 speaking으로 걸렸어요. 그래서 저도 바꾸려고했는데 생각보다 speaking class 중에 한 분이 실제 교수신데 굉장히 academic하고
presentation에다가 article도 여러개 읽고 idioms며 new york times도 syllabus에 넣어있어서 괜찮은 것 같더라구요.
휴대폰은 저도 지금 AT&T로 usim card만 사서 한국 스마트폰에 바꿔끼긴 했는데 working이 안되서 조만간 미국폰을 다시 구입해야할 것 같아요. 그때 나오면 알려드릴게요. 모든게 다 set-up이 됐구요. 아직 certication class는 다음주부터 시작이라서 알지는 못하지만
ALI Program은 정말 좋은 것 같아요. 그리고 특히 오후에 듣는 electives course들 (speaking classes 하나는 speech class이고 하나는 pronounciation class에요) 너무 재미있어요ㅋㅋ
It is good to write the review after I successfully finished the NYU marketing program.
NYU certificate program has 2 semesters and I did mine during the summer season. I studied marketing selection of topics varies from media marketing, management marketing to accounting marketing.
Basically you can choose 4 subjects. (you will sit down with William and talk about the subjects you want to study for) If you choose through SCPS you need to sit for 5 subjects and has limitation depending on categories, but if you do it through the center, global program has no limitation of selecting the subjects you want to study.
For me, I did statistic marketing, marketing plan, brand and basic marketing subjects. One of the most memorable lessons was marketing principle and practice which was taught by Wendy. She finished her MBA from Harvard University and her lesson was compact. I liked how it was very practical because she both taught theories and practical parts where you can use it in real life.
Lesson was definitely hard because it is not a one way lesson like in Korea where the professor just talks in students write down. It is two way lesson where professor and students communicate during the lesson. (I had to simulate few times before asking questions TT). But in the end, after getting certificate it was all worth it..
If you are interested try to learn digital media marketing certificate which is very popular these days. I haven’t had chance to do it but my friends say it is very good. You get to study real cases and how they earn money through search engines and so on. Sometimes I regret not taking the course.
Anyways, it is much better than spending a year simply just learning English. I am pretty sure this way it will be more meaningful and different year.

NYU marketing 프로그램 후기입니다!
안녕하세요!
이번에 뉴욕대 마케팅 프로그램 마치고 무사히 돌아와 이렇게 후기까지 적게되네요.
뉴욕대 자격증 프로그램은 봄이나 가을학기도 있지만 제가 한건 여름 학기였구요
저는 마케팅을 했지만, 미디어 마케팅이나 경영 회계 기타등등 다양한 분야를 선택할 수 있습니다.
기본적으로 과목을 4개 선택할 수 있구요.(첫주에 윌리엄이라는 분과 둘이 머리 맞대고 앉아서 무슨 수업을 들을지 정합니다.) SCPS를 통해서 신청하는건 5개 들어야 하고 선택한 카테고리에 따라 들을 수 있는 수업에 제한이 있는데 반해서, 랭귀지를 통해서 신청하는 글로벌 프로그램의 경우 수업의 신청에 제한이 없기에 본인이 원하는 걸 선택 조합해서 들을 수 있는 장점이 있습니다.
단지 아침에 랭귀지 수업듣고 밤에 전공 수업들으려면 조금 힘들기는 하죠.
저같은 경우는 통계쪽 과목 하나(통계를 이용한 마케팅이죠 결국) 나머지는 마케팅 플랜, 브랜드, 그리고 전반적인 마케팅에 관한 수업을 택했습니다. 특히 생각나는 수업은 Wendy라는 교수님이 진행하셨던 Marketing principle and practice(아마 맞을꺼에요 ㅎㅎ)이 참 좋았던것 같아요. 하버드 MBA 마치시고 현직에서 일하시다 가르치셨던 분인데. 마케팅이라는 걸 핵심만 뽑아서 컴팩트 하게 가르치시더라구요. 마지막 수업에는 학생들이 궁금한 분야를 가르쳐 주셨던 것도 무척 좋았구요. 전반적으로 수업이 무척 practical 한게 저한테는 참 좋았습니다. 이론이나 실무에서 안쓰이는 부분은 지양하고, 실질적으로 쓰이고 있고 쓸 수 있는 부분에 대해서 가르쳐주는게 참 좋았습니다.
뭐 아무래도 미국 현지에서 직장갖고 계신분들이 듣는 수업이고, 미국 대학교 수업이 한국처럼 교수님이 앞에서 말씀하시고 받아적는 원웨이가 아니라, 수업 언제든지 학생들이 질문하고 대답하는 투웨이라서... 수업하는게 쉽지는 않았지만..(질문한번 해보려고 머릿속에서 몇번을 시뮬레이션 돌렸는지 몰라요 ㅎㅎ) 그래도 다 끝나고 자격증도 받고나니깐 하길 잘했구나하는 생각이 듭니다.
혹시 관심있으신 분은 디지털 미디어 마케팅 자격증을 생각해보세요. 요즘 디지털 미디어와 관련한 마케팅이 엄청 핫하고 많이 연구되어지고 있는분야인데요. 저는 못들었지만, 이쪽 수업듣는 친구들 이야기 들어보면 다들 엄청 좋다고 하더라구요. 케이스 스터디도 많이하고, 검색엔진 등등 해서 어떻게 수익을 버는지 등등 특히 이쪽 관련한 프로그램은 뉴욕대에서 밖에 안한다고!(이것도 들은얘기지만ㅎㅎ) 어하간 개인적으로는 마케팅을 신청했지만 그쪽 친구들 하는거 보면서 디지털 미디어 마케팅을 들었으면 더 좋았을뻔 했다 라는 생각 많이 했습니다.ㅎㅎ
어하간 남들처럼 1년 어학연수가서 남들처럼 랭귀지만 다니고 오는것 보다. 뉴욕대나 (뭐 아님 다른학교라도) 수업을 듣는게 좀더 의미있고 남들과 차별화 할 수 있는 1년이 될것이라고 생각합니다.
私の場合は、統計の方の科目一つ（統計を利用したマーケティングですね）残りは、マーケティングプラン、ブランド、および全体的なマーケティングの授業を選択しました。特に考えて私のクラスはWendyと教授が進行されたのMarketing principle and practice （たぶん合っていると思います（笑） ）が本当に良かったです。ハーバードMBA終えて、現職で教えている方です。マーケティングを重点にして分かりやすく教えていただきました。最後の授業では、学生が気になる分野を教えてくれた事もとても良かったでした。。全般的に授業がとても実質的なのが私には良かったです。理論や実務で使われない部分はもちろん、 、実質的に使われている部分について教えてくれるのは本当に良かったです。
New York University study abroad/certificate participation review
The palladium dormitory is the best where I am living right now and Lafayette, Alumni respectively. 3 minutes from Union Square and is a good location for everything. 800 dollars per month will grant you water, electricity, gas and internet. Rooms are to be shared but if you are lucky you may get a single room for yourself. There is bed, desk, and in the living room they have refrigerator and microwave so you have no problem cooking. And the dormitory building has restaurant and gym too. The building has centre temperature control. Oh they also give you tissues and plastic bags so it is good to apply for dormitory.
They only accept cheques and cards but if you do use cards you will have to go somewhere else to pay it. In my case, I had to go from offices to office which was very annoying. ALI people do a very poor job.
Oh and meal plan, I don’t recommend this. I can’t remember exactly if they open at weekends or not but you will have to buy lunch anyways because the building is pretty far. It has buffet style but paying 14 dollars and eating that quality of food is not worth it. You can always apply later.
You also have to charge some money in your student card to do the laundry. It can be charged either online or using machines. But internet will charge you 2 dollars extra with minimum of 25 dollars.
They test you both the ALI study abroad level and certificate level so I think TOEFL score is a must in order to sit for SCPS certificate programs. I applied for marketing principles and practices, data analytics, interpretation and reporting, positioning and brand management and the marketing plan. Each course costs about 805 dollars so I paid 3220 dollars. Following link tells you all about it.
You can choose your elective subjects depending on that year’s bulletin.
Oh and once you transfer the money, you need to get proof document to student service centre. I was lucky to pay only 40 dollars worth of textbook but my friend paid 800 dollar.
Teachers have different ways of teaching but they are definitely above average. One of them was very good. But then the lesson is debate based and it was so hard for me as I was not very good at English at that time. (learning marketing for first time too)
And you will have two different accounts for student ID for internet. One of them starts with N and the other one is netID which you need to access internet and use NYU blackboard. You will be able to create netID at NYU homepage.

뉴욕대학교 어학연수 와 Certificate 과정 참가 후기 기숙사는 제가 사는 palladium이 제일 좋아요. 그다음에 Lafayette, Alumni 순이죠. 일단 위치가 유니언 스퀘어에서 도보로 3분. 기숙사 바로아래 트레이더죠 있고 어하간 일단 위치가 엄청 좋구요. 월 800불에 수도전기가스 인터넷까지 쓸수있구요. 방은 쉐어해야하지만 운좋으면 일인실이 걸릴수도 있어요. 방에 기본적으로 침대 책상 전등 주구요. 거실에는 냉장고랑 가스렌지도 있어서 취사도구를 사면 여기서 밥해먹을수도 있을꺼에요(전 귀찮아서-_- 오래살것도 아니고) 글고 여기 기숙사 건물에 식당이랑 짐도 있답니다 중앙냉난방시스템인데 온도조절 가능하구요. 아 글고 화장지랑 쓰레기봉지도 주네요-_- 1층 오피스에서 달라그려면 줍니다. 결론은 강추. 기숙사 신청할때 나머지 기숙사들도 알아었는데... 기억이 안나니 패스하겠습니다.여기는 체크밖에 안받구요,(동 건물 다른층에 있는 housing 오피스도 체크만 받음-_-) 카드로 낼수는 있는데 다른데 가서 내야할거에요. 근데 저같은 경우는 카드로 지불하러 다른데를 가니까 제가 시스템에 없대요. 다시 Bursur's 오피스가니 그러면 하우징 오피스를 가야한다는군요. 그래서 결국 하우징 오피스에서 체크로 냈습니다.
또 글고.. ALI애들이 일처리를 엄청 못해서 기숙사 들어가려면 학생증을 만들어야 하는데 학기초에 학생증 만들러가면 ALI명단이 없다고 못만들어준대요-_- 그러면 기숙사 시스템을 뒤져달라고 하면. 서머 하우징용으로 카드를 만들어줍니다(이걸로 짐은 이용가능한데, 도서관은 못들어가요. 일단 저걸로 생활하는데 지장은 없을꺼에요~아 글고 밀플랜!! 이거 갠적으로는 진짜 비추입니다-_- 이게 웃긴게 평일밖에 식당이 안열구요(토욜은 됬던가 안됬던가 가물가물) ALI빌딩이나 야간수업 클래스가 밥먹을수있는 곳하고 좀 떨어져있어서 점심은 어차피 사먹어야해요. 그럼 결국 일주일에 아침빼면 딱 5,6번나오죠 근데 가격은 끼당 14불인가 그런데 이게 또 엄청 맛있냐? 또 그건 아니거든요. 부페식이기는 한데... 그래서 양것먹을수는 있는데... 퀄리티는 딱 대충 떼울수 있는정도? 갠적으로 그거 먹으려고 14불씩 내는건 좀 아닌것 같네요. 뭐 딱히 매일마다 밖에서 사먹기 귀찮고 그러면 괜찮을지도 모르는데 갠적으로는 비추입니다. 글고 만일 한다면 최소한으로, 어차피 첨에 신청안해도 나중에 신청가능하기도 하구요. 뭐 첨에 먹을게 없으면 일단 신청했다가 나중에 캔슬할수도 있으니까요(저도 일주일 먹고 캔슬했죠)

아 글고 인터넷!! 학생 아이디가 두종류가 있어요 하나는 N으로 시작하는게 있고 나머지는netID이래서 인터넷 접속하고 NYU 블랙보드 쓸때 필요한 아이디지요근데 인터넷을 접속하려면 넷 아이디가 필요한데 넷 아이디는 NYU홈피에서 만들수가 있어서-_- 어디 인터넷 연결되어있는 다른사람의 컴퓨터로 먼저 netID를 등록하고 그담에 인터넷 및 NYU블랙보드를 사용하면 됩니다.. 저 같은 경우는 만들고도 인터넷이 안되서고생좀 했죠 어떻게 고치긴 했지만.... 어휴 어하간 뭐 인터넷 문제나 이런건 IT 팀에 전화해서 물어보면 알려주니깐 전화하면 되구요 이상입니다~
