The mission of the English Language Institute at the University of Texas at Arlington is to provide English as a second language programs for international students that help students improve English language skills needed to pursue academic studies in a U.S. university and to also provide English as a second language programs to international students and the global community for academic, professional and personal development. ELI’s instructors do their best in assisting students in their cultural adjustment so that their academic pursuits will be both enjoyable and productive. The University of Texas at Arlington is a public university located in Arlington, Texas, United States. The campus is situated southwest of downtown Arlington, and is located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The university was founded in 1895 and served primarily a military academy during the early 20th century. After spending several decades in the Texas A&M University System, the institution joined the University of Texas System in 1965. In the fall of 2010, UT Arlington reached a student population of 32,956, a gain of 31% from autumn 2008, and is currently the second-largest institution within the UT System. Full time Intensive English course is designed to help students who want to gain general English skills in the shortest amount of time in the most productive ways. All new students are given placement tests when they arrive so the school can place them into the most appropriate level. Students are placed in one of 6 levels with small class size of 15 students. The course focuses on Grammar-writing, Reading, and Listening-Speaking.
