As the only intensive English language program in the metropolitan Detroit area, the English Language Institute (ELI) of Wayne State University (WSU) has specialized exclusively in teaching English communication, cultural orientation, and academic preparation skills to non-native speakers of English from all over the world for more than 35 years.The ELI uses the newest language-teaching methodology and the most up-to-date audio, video, and computer technology available, including a remote-access language lab. Small classes and highly trained instructors of ELI's Intensive English Program make it possible for students to improve their English rapidly and effectively. Beginning and intermediate classes teach communicative skills and integrate listening, speaking and pronunciation in one module and reading, writing and grammar in a second, week-long module. Advanced classes continue to reinforce basic skills while emphasizing academic skills.

Facilities
Wayne State is constantly upgrading facilities to give students the best space in which to study. Recent improvements include expanded classrooms and labs in several buildings. Our wireless network is available in most WSU instructional space. Wayne State has six libraries, including the Adamany Undergraduate Library which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The libraries provide computer labs to give you access to research, homework and the internet.
