The mission of the American Language Institute (ALI) is to provide quality English as a Second Language instruction that meets the high educational standards of its affiliate campus, California State University, Long Beach (CSULB). As a unit within College of Continuing and Professional Education, the self-support division on campus, the American Language Institute responds to the needs of a variety of audiences. As such, the American Language Institute includes long-term and short-term programs, credit and non-credit courses, as well as support services and activities appropriate for its different clients. A large part of the efforts within the institute focuses on the Intensive English Program (IEP), which offers academic and practical ESL instruction to a post-secondary audience. The IEP administrators, faculty and staff endeavor to maximize learning and successfully prepare students for studies at U.S. colleges and universities.

Submit the Housing Request Form to the American Language Institute by fax, email or mail.
The American Language Institute will send students an email with your CSULB ID number and password to apply online at www.csulb.edu/housing.
Pay the $400 non-refundable deposit online by credit card or check made payable to 'CSULB Residence Halls'.
CSULB housing will notify students via email when you have been placed and with information about moving in.
Homestay
Living in a homestay provides a unique opportunity for a student to experience an American lifestyle and practice English regularly. Homestay hosts are carefully chosen for the best quality and by referral only. A student can begin living in a homestay in any term and continue year-round.
A Homestay placement is not guaranteed. Please apply as soon as possible to reserve a spot.
Considerations Each homestay has a unique environment. A host 'family' may consist of a single woman, a single man, a couple or a couple with children.
Most Californians do not smoke. Most homestays require students to smoke outside the home.

조건부입학에 관하여 자세히 알고싶습니다.IEP 과정을 수료후 롱비치 미술대학교에 진학을 하고싶은데요 미국 비자를 제가 한번 리젝을 당해서 비자를 받기위해서는 영어공부를 위한 i-20 form 이 아닌 정규입학 허가서가 필요한 상황인데 레터와 함께 입학 허가서를 내어주실수 있는지 궁금합니다.

How to apply for Conditional Admission to CSULB:
Applicants who do not meet the California State University, Long Beach English Language requirement and need to improve their proficiency first, may do so through the American Language Institute. This means you can attend the American Language Institute and gain direct entry to California State University, Long Beach once completing the required Intensive English program level.
1. Apply to the American Language Institute's Intensive English program.
2. Apply to CSULB online at www.csumentor.edu between the appropriate deadline.
3. Pay the CSULB online $55 application fee
4. Please turn the following documents in to the American Language Institute, by the appropriate deadline.
Online CSULB application confirmation pageFinancial AffidavitGovernment financial guarantee or bank statement that shows at a minimum $34,285.00 (graduates) /$35,533.00 (undergraduates)Official English translations of all Academic Records and Certificates/Diplomas. 3. Submit a copy of all your academic transcripts
If admissible, CSULB International Admissions will issue a letter saying you meet the academic requirements for your desired degree program. Preliminary Evaluation does not result in official acceptance, guaranteed acceptance or conditional admission to CSULB. Students will still need to officially apply to the university for their official acceptance to the university. The Preliminary Evaluation takes 4-6 weeks.

저는 어중간한 나이에 간 거라서 너무 걱정되었는데 주위에서 캘리포니아를 많이가고 미국중에서 가기에는 제일 적당하다고 하더라구요. 정말 틀린 결정이 아니었어요. 첫번째로 저는 남자이고 요리조차 해본적 없는 사람이며 절대 청소 같은것도 잘 안하거든요 근데 캘리포니아 롱비치 주변에는 한인 식당이랑 한인사람들이 많아서 결코 어려움 없이 음식 재료나 그리고 음식을 사 먹을 수있었구요 생각했던 것 보다 물가도 많이 안비싸고 좋았어요. 그리고 낯을 많이 가리는 편이라서 어려울거 같았는데 동양계 친구들도 많더라구요 그래서 어려움 없이 친해지고 그 친구들도 영어로 대화하니까 어려움 없이 영어가 더 늘었던거 같아요.
그리고 숙박도 그렇고 위치도 그렇고 너무 마음에 들어요. 짧게 다녀와서 아쉬움이 남아서 열심히 다시 일해서 가고 싶은 생각이있어요. 일단 저는 집중 영어 프로그램 (Intensive English Program (IEP))을 다녀왔어요. 수업 레벨이 7까지 나눠져있어서 기본적인 테스트를 걸친후에 내 레벨에 맞춰서 수업을 진행했구요 저는 중간 정도였습니다. 그래서 반을 배정받고 수업을 진행했어요. 수업 인원은 약 15명에서 많으면 20명정도? 근데 제가 진행했던 프로그램 반은 15명 정도 였어요. 많지 않은 숫자라서 더 좋았어요. 학생과 교수님 사이에서 친밀도 있게 수업을 진행 했다고 생각합니다.
일단 선택한 결정적인 이유는 교수진들이 매우 좋다는 것이었어요. 그 말이 맞는 듯 했어요. 저를 담당해주시던 교수님들이 참 좋았어요 그리고 서부 해안지역에서 학생 수와 다양성으로 가장 유명한 대학으로 꼽히고 미 서부지역에서 다섯번째로 가장 다양한 학생을 보유하고 있는 학교로 U.S.
News & World Report에 등록되어 있다는 점에 저는 더 만족 스러웠습니다. 캘리포니아에서 가장 큰 대학교라고 알고 있습니다. 홈스테이, 기숙사, 그리고 아파트 중에서 고를 수 있었는데요.모든것들이 장단점을 따지고 나서 저는 기숙사를 선택했어요.
CSULB Residence Hall(교내) Residence Learning College(교외) 둘중에 고를 수 있구요 저는 교내에 있는 기숙사를 선택 했습니다, 친구들과 더 잘 어울릴 수 있다는 장점이 제일 커서 선택을 했구요.
캠퍼스랑 약 1마일 정도 떨어져있지만 저는 차가 없었음에도 불구하고 어려움 없이 지낼 수 있었던 계기는 학교내에 스쿨버스가 있어서 스케줄에 맞춰서 버스를 타고 수업 시간마다 이동하며 다녔어요. 큰 어려움은 없었어요. 주당 10번 아니면 19번의 식사를 선택 할 수 있는데요. 저는 주말에는 기숙사 친구들하고 나가서 사먹거나 하고 수업이 있는 중에는 캠퍼스 안에있는 식당에가서 꼭 챙겨 먹었어요. 음식도 맛있었도 그리고 더군다나 저렴한것이 좋았어요.
한국에서는 겪을 수 없는 그럼 캠퍼스 문화라던지 식당에서 이야기 하면서 밥 먹는게 그런 소소한거 그리고 밥 먹고나서 앞에 공원에 앉아서 친구들이랑 이야기 하는 그런거 너무 좋았어요. 색다른 기분이었습니다. 진정한 캠퍼스 생활은 역시 기숙사 아닐까요 ㅎㅎ
저는 캘리포니아 같은 날씨를 매우 좋아하는데요 너무 덥지도 너무 습하지도 않은 그런 날씨가 좋았어요. 주말에 기숙사 룸메이트 들이랑 같이 롱비치 해변가로 가서 놀다오곤 했는데요, 치안적으로도 안전해서 보안 문제는 걱정을 안했어요. 그리고 서핑이 꽤 유명한 편이라서 서퍼들을 많이 볼거에요.
저처럼 마음만 먹고 계신 분들이라면 저의 이 글을 통해서 갈 수 있는 좋은 계기가 되었으면 합니다.
