SSALI (Sonoma State American Language Institute)About the
The Sonoma State American Language Institute (SSALI) was established in 1979 to provide intensive instruction to students, professionals, and others who need to learn English quickly to meet academic, job-related and social demands. The SSALI's professionally designed curriculum is enriched with out-of-the-classroom assignments, field trips, and rigorous instruction in grammar, composition, oral communication, reading and vocabulary, and study skills. SSALI students receive a student identification card and gain full access to the University's library, computer laboratories with Internet access, and athletic facilities complete with a fully equipped recreation center, swimming pool, and tennis courts. SSALI students enjoy social and cultural activities organized through the Center for International Education, including weekly international student club events, campus events, local sightseeing, and trips to nearby San Francisco, the Pacific Ocean, the redwood forests, and the Sonoma and Napa Valleys. SSALI is a proud member of EnglishUSA (The American Association of Intensive English Programs) which promotes professional standards and quality instruction in intensive English programs.
Sonoma State UniversityAbout the
Sonoma State University is a public university in Rohnert Park in Sonoma County, California. It is one of the smallest members of the California State University (CSU) system. Sonoma State offers 92 Bachelor's degrees, 19 Master's degrees, and 11 teaching credentials. Sonoma State offers 46 majors and 49 minors at the undergraduate level as of 2017. The school features a joint master's degree program in mathematics with San Francisco State University and one of the only wine-business programs in the country. Popular majors for undergraduates in 2018 included Business Administration (Management and Operations) at 18.43%, Psychology (General) at 9.02%, and Sociology at 7.05%. Students enrolled in the Program receive 20-24 hours per week of in-class instruction in order to meet their individual academic, professional or personal needs.

The Program offers 2 levels of English classes, from high-intermediate to advanced. Upon students' arrival at the SSALI, they are required to take English placement tests to help determine the level best-suited to their ability. At the end of each session, students who regularly attended classes and successfully completed their course requirements are awarded attendance and graduation certificates. Students in all levels receive fundamental instruction in the areas of grammar, composition, oral communication, and reading and vocabulary, as well as develop their study skills through focused exercises and assignments. Students can select from a variety of elective courses to study areas such as American Culture & Conversation, English for Business, Idioms & Slang, Pronunciation, Listening, English through Music, and Computer/Internet. The computer-based English Proficiency test is available locally throughout the academic year.
Outside of the classroom, students are encouraged to experience American culture firsthand by joining university groups and participating in campus activities. SSALI students have the opportunity to meet with American college students or members of the community through the Conversation Partner Program to practice their English conversational skills and learn more about American culture. The SSALI office is located in International Hall, which is a dynamic hub for international and domestic students.
Small, interactive classes ensure full student participation. Class sizes range from 12 to 15 students with an average of 13 students per class. Every effort is made to keep classes at an ideal size for effective English language instruction.

Beaujolais Village
This village option consists of 1,150 square feet with four-bedroom apartments where you and three housemates will have access to a full kitchen and furnished living room.
Cabernet Village
The fully furnished apartment includes two bedrooms or one triple and one double occupancy bedroom each with their own bathroom. Each apartment has its own living room and kitchen. Cabernet Village housing is available for first years.
Sauvignon Village
All apartments have four bedrooms. Floor plans can be either two single bedrooms and two double occupancy bedrooms with six people or two single bedrooms, one double bedroom, and one triple* occupancy bedroom with seven people. No matter which occupancy bedroom you are assigned to, each bedroom has its own private bathroom.
Tuscany Village
These spacious townhomes are a place for the whole squad. Six students will have access to 1,500 square feet of living space on two floors where each bedroom has its own bathroom. In addition to a furnished living room, the kitchen is equipped with Corian counters, stainless steel appliances, and a breakfast bar with stools. Plus, the floors have radiant heating.
Verdot Village
Two-bedroom suites consist of one double occupancy bedroom and one triple occupancy bedroom, separate bathroom area, and a shared living room.
Four-bedroom suites consist of three double occupancy bedrooms and one triple* occupancy bedroom, two bathrooms, and a shared living room.
Zinfandel Village
Zinfandel Village consists of suite-style accommodations with both single and double occupancy bedrooms. Zinfandel Village has a swimming pool and spa located in the middle of the village. Two bedroom suites have two double occupancy bedrooms, separate bathroom area, and a shared living room. Five bedroom suites have four double occupancy bedrooms and one single occupancy bedroom, two bathrooms, and a shared living room.
