  • Canadian College of English Language is a large private college in Vancouver Downtown with its unique and renovated classrooms, with a capacity of 400 students in total. Classrooms are located on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floor, with offices on the 4th floor and a large rooftop garden on the 5th floor.
    At the CCEL, staffs and teachers see a tremendously positive shift happening in the way the world uses English. Its global use in media, business, and science is reaching new heights, and nowhere is this more evident than on the Internet. With this technology, the use of English no longer has geographical boundaries. It is now merely just a click away, no matter where you are in the world. Do you want to learn English, or do you want to learn English as it is used in our world today?
    CCEL Smrt Curriculum is a fully digital, web-based curriculum created solely by CCEL instructors for students. Embracing the learning and teaching potential of the web, the Smrt curriculum prepares students to excel in all areas of English. Instruction and classroom activities apply the use of the Internet as a powerful learning tool and communication medium, drawing from such resources as YouTube, TED, Wikipedia, Blogs, and Google Apps.

Conditional admission

  • After completion of the EAP pathway program students can enter several Canadian universities including Emily Carr, Canadian College Royal Roads, Thompson Rivers, Univ of Regina, Univ of Canada West and New Image College.

  • Focus of Study : 
    General English program focuses on developing students' English in overall parts.
    The length of this program is flexible. It takes about 2 months to advanced to the next level and there are 7 levels. After registering for this program students will take a placement test which will determine their starting level.

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    General English program designed to improve overall competency in English. These programs are intended to prepare students for exam courses such as Cambridge and TOEFL, university pathways, career advancement, or for personal interest.

    Curriculum :
    There are seven levels, from English 110 to English 145. The SMRT English Curriculum is used for English 110 to English 130 classes and the Cambridge Masterclass textbook is used for the Advanced and Upper Advanced classes (FCE, CAE). Students study reading, writing, communication, and structure as a part of this integrated course.

Elective classes include: Communication, Current Events and Media, Business English, Grammar, Pronunciation, Vocabulary Building, Writing, TOEFL, and TOEIC.

  • Focus of Study :
    English for Academic Purposes (EAP) provides advanced ESL students with the opportunity to improve their academic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    After completion of the EAP pathway program students can enter several Canadian universities including the University of Alberta. Upon completion of EAP 140, students are able to analyze academic materials critically and to express themselves fluently, accurately and logically, both orally and in writing.
    - Program Benefits :
    • High Level Academic English
    •  Seamless pathway to the Canadian College, University of Alberta, Emily Carr University, University of Lethbridge, Vancouver Island University and Thompson Rivers University.
    • Students do not have to write the TOEFL or IELTS exams. EAP 145 meets the language requirement of partnered universities.

    Curriculum :
    - EAP 140 Advanced Academic English :
    This course in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) provides advanced ESL students with the opportunity to improve their academic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Upon completion of EAP 140, students are able to analyze academic materials critically and to express themselves fluently, accurately and logically, both orally and in writing. This course runs for 9 weeks.
    - EAP 145 Advanced Academic English :
    This EAP course is a continuation of EAP 140. Students further develop their abilities to collect and synthesize information from a variety of academic sources; analyze and critique materials; and present their ideas in a variety of media in accordance with the academic standards found at the first-year university level. This course runs for 9 weeks. Students who successfully complete EAP 145 will receive a letter of completion from the English Language Program at the Faculty of Extension, University of Alberta . The office of the Registrar and Student Awards accepts this letter as proof that the student has achieved the level of English language proficiency required of all international undergraduate applicants.
    - Conditional Admission to Undergraduate Studies :
    Completion of EAP 145 will meet the English language proficiency required but students must apply separately with all supporting academic documents for entry into CCEL's partnered university pathways. Canadian College of English Language staff will assist with this process.

    The Canadian College of English Language has a student residence apartments in downtown Vancouver for CCEL students. Many students choose to live in CCEL's student residence apartments because it is 5 minutes walk to the CCEL and it is a great place to meet other students from around the world. The Residence has fully furnished single and shared apartments on Robson street - ideal for extended stays.
    The Canadian College of English Language Student Residence Apartments are excellent furnished apartments in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The apartments are located in downtown Vancouver, next to world famous Stanley Park and is on trendy Robson Street, fantastic restaurants, interesting shops and quaint boutiques. Canadian College of English Language Student Residence has single and double rooms. Each apartment features a fully equipped kitchen, cable TV and High Speed Wireless Internet.     It begins with CCEL's sourcing practices: purchasing a large percentage of CCEL products locally (within 100 miles), using compostable takeout containers and cutlery, working with green cleaning products, and composting food waste which in turn is used for growing fresh organic produce in CCEL's roof top garden. All this is an effort to be environmentally friendly, to show responsibility, and to set a good example for international students and for the community.
    At eh CCEL prides on providing local food with an international flavour to satisfy even the most discerning taste buds.

Activity

  • It doesn't matter what the activity is. CCEL students will have fun no matter where they go. It's about bringing students together so they can meet new friends. Students have careers already or want one. When CCEL students go home they should bring our business practices and cultural ideas with them. Every week there is a free activity, one that is under $10, and some that costs more.
    The full time activities coordinator has spent many years organizing activities for international audiences. Students will be given information about holidays, celebrations, nightclubs, concerts, etc whats happening in Vancouver and how they can get involved.
    There are tourism, educational, cultural & active living activities, and community events.

在參考許多資料後,我選擇了加拿大英語語言學院,因為該校提供多種課程給予選擇,且課後活動的安排深深吸引我的目光。  
基本上入學的前一天,語言學校會先舉辦分級考試,並且視你的等級給予適當的課程選擇。為了能夠讓自己的語言能力有所進步,當然必須盡力考到最好。而我所選的課程主要是跟口語有關,畢竟我們在學校所學的英文能力能藉此發揮,才能習慣成自然,我是這樣想的。課堂第一天,老師與班上學生討論有興趣的議題與所期待能在這門課中獲得什麼,選擇自己所感興趣的,然後盡情參與其中。

有趣的是,一個班級就如同文化的大熔爐,觀點與文化的不同常會互相腦力激盪而後產生獨特的見解,比如說,某次上課主題為社群網站,討論過程中,可以了解到不同國情文化使用社群網絡的現象與特色。
不同於我們對於上課的刻板肅穆氛圍,課堂中取而代之的是如同歡樂的宴會氣氛,每位同學皆踴躍的表達自己的看法,同時也尊重他人的不同見地,若討論到敏感議題時例如政治,如何有風度地接受別人的看法,並且機智給予回應,是我在這個月當中所學到的寶貴經驗,不僅止於課堂討論,同學之間相處也是不吝給予指點,並當下指出你的錯誤迅速解決問題,避免問題隨著時間擴大與複雜化,這也是令我印象最深刻的。如何有技巧的不讓對方感到不舒服與保持組內的和諧,在這短短的一個月當中,我確實學到不少。
