Course Information

  • General Arts and ScienceEnglish for Academic Purposes (GAS-EAP)

    English for Academic Purposes (EAP) at Mohawk is a series of 8 levels of 7 week courses designed to develop students’ language skills from pre-beginner to college level English. Each course includes 18 hours of in-class instruction with five hours of individually assigned work in the computer lab. The continuous intake program accommodates students arriving at different times throughout the year, and is also for those who wish only a short-term academic language experience. At the higher levels of EAP, students have the opportunity to earn two post-secondary credits toward their diploma program with an option for additional credits if it permits.

    This program is intended for learners whose first language is not English and who want to pursue college level programs requiring English language proficiency.

    1&2 Low Beginner/Beginner
    3&4 High Beginner to Low Intermediate
    5&6 Intermediate to High Intermediate
    7&8 Low Advanced to Advanced
    Diploma Program

    *You will join the appropriate level of Integrated English classes in GAS-EAP to increase your chances of success
    *8 levels of EAP from Beginner to Low Advanced mean you can reach your goal faster.
    *Levels 7 and 8 include opportunities to earn 2 post-secondary credit courses from your major program of choice.
    *Successful completion of Level 8 with 70% guarantees admission to Mohawk College Diploma programs requiring IELTS 6.0
    *GAS-EAP levels are offered 6 times a year for international applicants: January, March, May, July, September, November.

    during your studies at Mohawk College
    The Homestay program allows our international visa students a chance to live with a Canadian family. This offers several benefits:

    2. Mohawk Residence – Stay in our comfortable and
    affordable on-campus residences
    Mohawk College Residence is awarded to International students by lottery because of the demand, so apply before May 15th for September accommodation. Visit the residence web site (opens in a new tab) to make arrangements and to print off a residence application form. There are a number of rooms set aside for international students - apply early.

    3. Off-Campus Housing – Rent your own accommodation
    in a nearby neighbourhood with easy access to campus
    Our Student Engagement office receives calls everyday from landlords who wish to host students in their rental accommodations. Student Engagement provides off-campus housing information for students who wish to find their own accommodation.

在這九個月的遊學生活中,除了語言方面的學習外,也讓我有機會可以認識來自世界各國不同的同學,在課堂中,我們會向同學介紹自己的國家,有哪些特點及好玩的地方,有什麼好吃的美食。另外,學校學生大多來自韓國、日本、巴西、墨西哥、沙烏地阿拉伯(依照人數多寡比例),這讓我有機會更能深入了解各國文化、生活習慣的不同,吃遍各國美食。不僅讓我體驗加拿大是個兼容並蓄的多元文化國家,對於世界各國的人文風俗,更是讓我大開眼界,讓自己的視野及心胸更加開闊。

最後希望有要來出國遊學的朋友們,到了國外,既來之則安之,請不要吝嗇你臉上的笑容,多保持微笑和外向這兩點很重要,真的可以使你更容易交到朋友。
在溫哥華的種種,真的體驗不及備載,只有親身去做,才感受得到。還有語言中心也很專業,有學生講不是英文的話,當天就會被趕回去。語言中心在做任何規劃,都希望能幫助你好好的把英文學好,不要忘記你來學語言的初衷。在語言中心的學習也是很棒的。
