About the  Curtin University

  • Curtin University, formerly known as Curtin University of Technology and Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT), is an Australian public research university based in Bentley, Perth, Western Australia. It is named after John Curtin, Prime Minister of Australia from 1941 to 1945, and is the largest university in Western Australia, with 59,939 students in 2021.
    Curtin was conferred university status after legislation was passed by the Parliament of Western Australia in 1986. Since then, the university has expanded its presence and has campuses in Singapore, Malaysia, Dubai and Mauritius, and has ties with 90 exchange universities in 20 countries. The university comprises five main faculties with over 95 specialists centres. It had a campus in Sydney from 2005 to 2016.
    Curtin University is a member of the Australian Technology Network. Curtin University is active in research in a range of academic and practical fields. Curtin is the only Western Australian university whose students have won the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering's Postgraduate Student Gold Medal as at 2020

Course information

  • Curtin College Diplomas have two stages
    The Curtin College Diploma is two years in total. It has two stages: Diploma (Stage 1) and Diploma (Stage 2). Where you start will depend on your qualifications. Students who have already completed Year 12 (or equivalent) may start with the Stage 2 Diploma, which has the same course content and structure as year one of the corresponding Curtin University undergraduate degree. Upon completion of your Diploma, you will progress directly into the second year of your Curtin University Bachelor's degree program. Students who are not eligible for entry into the Stage 2 Diploma may complete the Stage 1 Diploma prior, which includes eight pre-university level units studied over two or three trimesters.

    The English Language Bridging (ELB) course prepares you for academic study at the undergraduate, postgraduate, or diploma level at university. Students can study ELB as a pathway to Curtin University and can choose from both online and in-person study options. We have also introduced an ELB course that is taught exclusively online, for international students who are not applying as pathway students, but seek to improve their English communication skills for academic purposes.

  • Living and learning on campus enriches your uni experience. You’ll enjoy living, socialising and studying in a safe and supported community where classes and retail outlets are close by.Included in your weekly rent are your utility costs, as well as an off-peak gym membership at Curtin Stadium.  All Curtin students have access to free wi-fi, and when you apply, you don’t need to pay a bond or security deposit.


Surrounding Area

  • Perth, capital of Western Australia, sits where the Swan River meets the southwest coast. Sandy beaches line its suburbs, and the huge, riverside Kings Park and Botanic Garden on Mount Eliza offer sweeping views of the city. The Perth Cultural Centre houses the state ballet and opera companies, and occupies its own central precinct, including a theatre, library and the Art Gallery of Western Australia.

  • Erica Underwood House
    Across the road from Curtin Perth, close to shops and restaurants, Erica Underwood House provides convenient accommodation for students.
    St Catherine’s College
    Our first college, offering an all-inclusive university living experience, welcomed its first students in 2022.
    St Catherine’s support students throughout the different stages of their studies and offer a range of room types.
    Guild House
    Located opposite Curtin Stadium, at Guild House you can choose to live in a six or four-bedroom apartment. A range of options are available, including double rooms.
    Kurrajong Village
    Kurrajong Village is located on the west side of campus directly across from Waterford Plaza shopping centre. Limited double rooms are available.
    Vickery House
    Sitting within beautiful gardens, Vickery House offers fully-furnished six and eight-bedroom units on the south-east boundary of Curtin Perth.
    Twin Dolphin Hall
    Our new halls of residence, will feature a mix of studio, ensuite and shared apartments with private bedrooms and common lounge, kitchen and dining facilities and a games zone.

    Social Sport is a weekly social sporting competition for all levels. There are various seasons throughout the year, and seven different sports across 15 categories – with open, women’s, men’s and mixed, there is something for everyone!

    Sports clubs
    There are 16 affiliated sports clubs across a number of sports, catering for all levels of skill and experience. Joining a sports club is a fantastic way to learn a new sport, represent your university in competitions and make new friends.

    Elite Athlete program
    Our Elite Athlete Program provides assistance and support for students who are currently in a state or national representative squad, team or individual sport.

    Curtin Student Guild
