  • Since its establishment in 1983, The Language Company has been providing international students with a place to exchange culture and learn new language. TLC not only focuses on students' academic growth but it also emphasizes the coming together of international students and the growth of their ethnic and cultural values. TLC supports students with extensively trained instructors and professional academic counselors who have abundant experiences with foreign students. Accredited by ACCET, TLC offers several challenging courses that promise students with significantly noticeable growth in their English skills. One of TLC's ultimate goals is to prepare students for their future academic endeavors in American universities or colleges. TLC has accomplished such goal ever since its establishment and still works to make every student's academic journey a success. Students, in the past, have been waived TOEFL requirements after completing courses at TLC. As such, TLC is making continuous effort to give as much benefit to international students as possible.

  • Minot State University, TLC Minot's host university, is a 4-year public school serving more than 3,400 students currently. With its student to faculty ratio at 14:1, MSU provides bachelors, masters, certificate and non-degree programs. MSU's mainstream courses are in Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Health Science. These programs appeal to students from all around the country.

Conditional admission

  • TLC supports students' transfer to other universities via conditional admission under the assumption that students pay all applicable fess and submit required documents before the official process begins. Conditional admission applications cannot go over two per student. Required documents include completed and signed TLC APS Screening/Release Form, Institution admission application, financial documents, immunization records, recommendation letters and much more. Please refer back the the website in order to get a set list of required documents. Students who have completed TLC Level 9 will receive a waiver on their TOEFL requirement.

Accommodation

  • TLC offers is its unique homestay program. With experienced, welcoming host families, students will find the greatest opportunity to enhance their English skills and experience the local culture. The host family will provide ride to school each day as well as all three meals and a private bedroom. TLC Minot also has the university housing option. Students can choose to live in Minot State University's student dormitory which is close to the TLC center. Student will share a room with another student as well as a bathroom. Student must be at least 17 years of age and the option comes with 15 meals per week. The last option is off-campus housing for students who prefer more independence and privacy. TLC will help students make arrangements at these furnished, recently-built apartment complex. However, extra finder's fee will be paid by students.

Surrounding Area

  • Minot State University's location offers students various extracurricular activities. As TLC Minot students are granted equal access to MSU's sports, entertainment and activity facilities, student will enjoy historical museums, movie theaters, shopping centers, pools, parks, zoos, and local festivals. Minot is facilitated with convenient bus and train system, making metropolitan areas such as Minneapolis, Seattle, Chicago and St.Paul much more accessible.

  • MSU's facilities include wireless internet, student center, restaurants, cafeteria, Strabucks, multicultural center, Native American Center, MSU Bookstore, fitness center, astronomical observatory, pool tables, fire place, sports events hall, library and much more. TLC Minot is located in Dakota Hall next to the student center.

Activity

  • Minot is known for its beautiful summers, and picture-perfect winters. With four definite seasons, the weather in ND can please anyone. Summer is a favorite season for many North Dakotans. With average high temperatures in the 80’s and daylight from 6am to 11 pm, summer is an outdoor lover’s paradise. Winter in North Dakota can be quite cool. High temperatures range from the teen to 20’s, but it has been known to be colder. Most years North Dakota sees abundant snowfall, making for great sledding, skating, skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing opportunities.

National Mix

  • TLC has worked with many international students, majority of which come from Asia. Many students are from Korea, Japan and Taiwan. Other students come from Latin American and Europe as well.
