About the  Oregon State University (OSU)

  • Oregon State University (OSU) is a coeducational, public research university located in Corvallis, Oregon, United States. The university offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees and a multitude of research opportunities. There are more than 200 academic degree programs offered through the university. OSU's programs in microbiology,nuclear engineering, ecology, forestry, public health, biochemistry, zoology, oceanography, food science and pharmacy are recognized nationally as top tier programs. The OSU's liberal arts programs have also grown significantly and the department is considered a "cornerstone" of the institution. More than 200,000 people have attended OSU since its founding. The Carnegie Foundation classifies Oregon State University as part of its top tier of research institutions. As of 2008, OSU is one of only seventy-three land-grant universities. The school is also recognized as a sea-grant, space-grant and sun-grant institution, making it one of only two US institutions to retain all four designations and the only public university to do so (Cornell is the only other with similar designations). U receives more funding for research, annually, than all other public higher education institutions in Oregon combined

Conditional admission

  • Applicants who meet the University's academic and financial requirements, but who do not meet the minimum placement test requirement, may be offered conditional admission. This enables students to increase their language proficiency through study in OSU's intensive English language programs (INTO OSU) while possibly taking academic courses.The INTO OSU Undergraduate Pathway in Business leads to the second year of the pre-business major at OSU. At the end of the second year of study, qualified students may compete for admission to the upper division (pro school) of the business degree program.

Course Information

  • Focus of Study and Benefit :
    The Academic English program prepares international students for university study in the US and allows successful students to gain entry to the first year of a Pathway or to the first year of a university degree program.

    Curriculum :
    Academic English program allows direct entry to a Pathway or university study for qualified students. With highly trained and experienced instructors, students have access to full university student status with access to university facilities and events. The program is divided into 6 levels with 10 to 15 students in each class. The classes focus mainly on Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking to help prepar for the teaching and studying style of US universities.

    This College and University prep program gurarantees entry into the second year of an undergraduate degree program for successful Pathway students. INTO has a quality network of top-ranked US universities, with choices of city or small town universities. The program has a reputation for highest standards of student support and student experience. The program category includes Business and Management, Computer Science, Science, Engineering, Social Sciences and Arts and Humanities. There is only one level for each program and the minimum age for the program is 18 years.

    The homestay program provides you with a home away from home. You live as part of the family in either a shared or private bedroom, experiencing the day-to-day life of your host. We have a network of carefully selected homestay hosts who welcome international students into their homes as family. The number of available families is limited, and students participating must meet certain criteria.

    Many students will be placed in the new International Living-Learning Center, which houses the INTO OSU program, classrooms, auditorium and Global Village, a unique residential community for undergraduate international and domestic students. This beautiful, multi-purpose, environmentally-friendly building also has a coffee shop and a market offering a wide variety of fresh, local and cultural foods.Every effort is made to place INTO OSU international students with American roommates or suitemates. 在課堂上常會玩有趣的遊戲，老師不論怎麼樣都會鼓勵你做的很好。學校在每天也會有不同的活動，像我有和同學一起參加球類運動，也有和學校的旅行團一起去滑雪，感覺生活很多采多姿又沒有考試的壓力。
是一個大都市，雖然也有一些不錯的景點，也可以在路上看到各式各樣各個國家的人，這人多車多的大城市，還真不習慣，我花了好幾天才適應過來。這次是我第一次自己一個人出國，除了待兩個月唸語言學校，結束後我還再到旅行，感覺這趟旅程最大的收穫是做了自己以前不敢做的事。在唸語言學校的期間，我周末都會自己安排各個景點去自助旅行，在旅行前不僅要做好功課，到了當地也要靠著地圖慢慢摸索，或是問旅遊服務中心。
住寄宿家庭，不過離學校搭公車通勤要三十分鐘，每天都會經過大橋，看到漂亮的海和無數艘帆船。我住的房間非常奢華，很大又一個人睡雙人床，還有一張書桌。對於住宿有一些限制，不過大致上還不錯，我有三個室友，偶爾也會和他們一起出去走走，感覺跟不同國家的同學上課很開心，也可以了解很多有別於台灣的不同的世界。
