  • Pierce College is an accredited two-year community college in beautiful Washington state. Established in 1967, Pierce College has two campuses, one in Lakewood and one in Puyallup. Both are located about 45 minutes from Seattle.   • Pierce College is a community college district operating in and serving Pierce County in the U.S. state of Washington. The district consists of two main colleges, Pierce College Fort Steilacoom in Lakewood and Pierce College Puyallup in Puyallup, and auxiliary campuses at Fort Lewis, McChord Air Force Base, and in South Hill. Pierce College offers associate's degrees, mainly in the arts and sciences. There are also certificate programs in early childhood education, social services, dental hygienist, and others. Conditional admission

  • Conditional Admission Guarantee to Partner Universities:  In conjunction with their admission to Pierce College, students can receive a letter of conditional admission to one of Pierce College’s partner universities.  Students are guaranteed admission as 3rd year students if they fulfill certain conditions.

Course Information

  • High School Completion Program
    This program is a fast way for international students to earn their Washington State high school diploma while earning credits toward a bachelor's degree. It takes approximately two years to complete the program (depending on English proficiency) and students are able to begin their college studies even before they finish high school. It's a time- and money-saver for students and their families.

    When students complete the program, they graduate with both an associate's degree and a Washington State high school diploma. They are immediately able to transfer to a university to complete the last two years of study needed to earn a bachelor's degree.

    Eligibility Requirements
    Students must be 16 or older.
    Students are not eligible for admission to this program if they have already received a high school diploma in their home country or in the U.S.
    Students must provide proof of . Students whose English is not yet at college level can begin in Pierce College's .
    Students who apply to this program will receive a free evaluation of their transcripts. This will determine an approximate length of study needed to complete the requirements for a high school diploma and associate's degree. To facilitate this, students are asked to submit their transcripts in English for preliminary evaluation.

Course Information

  • Focus of Study :
    Pierce College's Intensive English Program provides an excellent way to learn English quickly. It is a first-rate program with dedicated, qualified, and dynamic instructors who love teaching international students.

    Curriculum :
    Full-time IEP students study English for 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The program is divided into four levels of instruction, from beginner to advanced. Classes are offered in grammar, writing, reading, listening and speaking. The sessions run for 10 weeks, but students may register for fewer weeks. (Students who do not enroll in a full session will have their tuition and fees pro-rated.) Many students need just one quarter in the IEP before they are ready to enter regular college classes. However, some may need three to six quarters to complete the program, depending on the above variables and other factors.

    Guaranteed admission to Pierce College academic courses upon completion of the IEP program
    Rolling admissions; students can enter the IEP or academic programs four times a year
    A four-level program with beginning to advanced levels 20 hours of full-time classroom instruction per week
    Academic English classes in reading and writing, listening and speaking, and grammar
    Small classes – fewer than 20 students per class, average of 12-14 students per class
    Experienced ESL instructors with master’s degrees in related fields Students enjoy full access to campus facilities

Accommodation

  • Homestay: If students choose homestay, they will live with a carefully-selected American host family. Hosts provide a private, fully furnished room, three meals a day, and a family atmosphere. This is a great option if the student wants to experience American culture firsthand. The total cost is $600 per month.
     
    Single room: If students wish to live independently and prepare their own meals, they can rent a private furnished room in the home of a local family. They will have access to bathroom and family kitchen facilities in the home. Single rooms rent for $450 per month.

    Learn about American culture and life by sharing a home with an American family. Homestay living focuses on cross-cultural exchange and developing lifelong friendships. Each month, students pay a stipend to their host family to cover the cost of housing expenses.

Surrounding Area

  • The Pierce College District is location in Pierce County, Washington, approximately 30 miles south of Seattle. There are two colleges in the district, both of with offer stunning views of Mount Rainier. Pierce College Fort Steilacoom is located on 140 acres in the city of Lakewood, which is 10 miles southwest of Tacoma. The campus is adjacent to Fort Steilacoom Park, which boasts 342 acres on Waughhop Lake with walking and horse trails, play areas, and fields. The campus is just one mile from the waters of the Puget Sound, and snow-covered mountain ranges visible in both directions. Pierce College Puyallup is located in the city of Puyallup, which is 10 miles southeast of Tacoma and home to the largest fair in the state. The Puyallup campus is on 85 wooded acres in the South Hill area of Puyallup. It is within walking distance of restaurants and shopping.

Activity

  • Washington is renowned for its mild climate. Temperatures range from 5-10 degrees Celsius in the winter to the low-20sC in the summer. Winter weather is generally rainy. Snow is rare, except in the mountains, where conditions are excellent for skiing and snowboarding. Summers are drier and quite sunny and mild. Popular summertime activities include hiking and kayaking.

學校的活動很多,設施也會不定期更新,每個周末都有安排活動帶學生出遊,

老師教學方式活潑,也很有耐心,每堂課的內容雖然不同,但都注重再加強同學的聽說讀寫部分,
每學期舉辦兩次英語能力測驗的考試,便利於要進修的學生,也而外開選修課提供給學生參加.
學生都來自世界各地,不過大都來中東像是沙烏地阿拉伯,印度;以及韓國.日本.和中國各地的亞洲地區,除了可以認識各個地方不同的文化之外,也可以訓練聽除了美式以外的口音~~
這是一個以著名的旅遊城市這是著名的美食,音樂和歷史街區。
因為去附近旅行都很方便很近,因此常常與其他同學一起去旅行~~ 有很多很美好得回憶^^
