About the  English Language Institute

  • The mission of the English Language Institute at the University of Texas at Arlington is to provide English as a second language programs for international students that help students improve English language skills needed to pursue academic studies in a U.S. university and to also provide English as a second language programs to international students and the global community for academic, professional and personal development. ELI’s instructors do their best in assisting students in their cultural adjustment so that their academic pursuits will be both enjoyable and productive. The Intensive English Program adhere to high standards of English Language instruction and program management. The location of the school is ideal for students who wish to experience American culture while their stay. Arlington, Texas, is one of the fastest-growing communities in the nation. Located in between Dallas and Fort Worth in northeast Texas, the city is home to more than 380,000 residents, making it the seventh-largest in the state. It’s also the hometown of two professional sports teams, the Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys. Residents, athletes, and visitors alike enjoy hot summers and mild winters, and fill their days with good food, good company, and good entertainment.

About the  University of Texas at Arlington

  • The University of Texas at Arlington is a public university located in Arlington, Texas, United States. The campus is situated southwest of downtown Arlington, and is located in the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The university was founded in 1895 and served primarily a military academy during the early 20th century. After spending several decades in the Texas A&M University System, the institution joined the University of Texas System in 1965. In the fall of 2010, UT Arlington reached a student population of 32,956, a gain of 31% from autumn 2008, and is currently the second-largest institution within the UT System. UTA is classified by the Carnegie Foundation as a "High Research Activity" institution. The university offers 80 baccalaureate, 74 masters, and 31 doctoral degrees. The University also operates the Fort Worth Education Center and the Automation & Robotics Research Institute, with campuses at the Fort Worth ITC and River Bend Park.

Course Information

  • Focus of Study and Benefits: 
    IEP students have the following resources:
    -ELI reading library - with many books for each level of reading,
    -Language Acquisition Center (LAC) - which has a very nice lounge, and many DVDs, and CDs for students to check out and use.
    -Conversation Club. 1-2 hours a week outside of class.
    -TOEFL + IELTS preparation course. This is an elective course that students may sign up for.
    - Newspapers - on first floor (free)
    -Friday evening discussion groups. This is run by ISI, a local organization with a friendly, long-term relationship with UTA/ELI.
    -Access to UTA's shuttle bus (to shopping on Saturdays--fee)
    -Access to UTA's state-of-the-art activities center 
     
    Curriculum :
    Full time Intensive English course is designed to help students who want to gain general English skills in the shortest amount of time in the most productive ways. All new students are given placement tests when they arrive so the school can place them into the most appropriate level. Students are placed in one of 6 levels with small class size of 15 students. The course focuses on Grammar-writing, Reading, and Listening-Speaking.

  • Focus of Study :
    The Visiting Scholar program offers an independent research opportunity and monthly seminars on various topics about the US. Also, Scholars will be a mentor of students who studying in US or interested in your field.

    Benefit, Goal of this course :
    It is to experience american culture while conducting research and attending seminars. 

    Curriculum :
    Program duration is around 1-2 years and program start date is flexible.

    * During the program years Scholar's children will get a free education from public school nearby.

    Students can apply for Centennial Court Apartments online.  These apartments are within walking distance to the UTA campus, but the University does not own them.

我在這所學校上的是英語強化課程。
我之前沒有補習班學習英語,但在水平測試後,我得程度被分配到中級的班級,課程著重於英語聽力和口語。
每班都是小班級的人數,跟同學之間有很多對話的機會,聽力和口語的能力有所提高真得非常開心
另外,我覺得更開心的是和當地的學生和室友一起住在宿舍。
起初我還很擔心是不是不好溝通,但還是試圖說話,運用在課​​堂上學得英語,與室友教談,與室友每天交談過程中,已經很習慣用英語交談,現在可以很自然地也交談
雖然這是一個小城鎮,但我非常喜歡這樣的氛圍,是一個有趣的校園生活
