About the  International Gateways

  • San Jose State University opened its intensive English language program in 1975 to meet the needs of incoming international students. Since that day, thousands of students from more than sixty countries have improved their English skills for academic, professional, or personal reasons. International Gateways now includes Semester at SJSU, MBA preparation, Active Communication in English as well as the long-standing Academic and Test Preparation program.  With a comfortably mild climate and over 300 days of sunshine per year, San Jose is located near beautiful cities of San Francisco and Berkeley. San Jose State University, the oldest public institution of higher education on West Coast of the US, offers conditional admission to students who meet the language requirement.

  • San Jose State University is a public university located in San Jose, California, United States. It is the founding campus of theCalifornia State University (CSU) system, and holds the distinction of being the oldest public institution of higher education on the West Coast of the United States.Located in downtown San Jose, the SJSU main campus is situated on 154 acres (62 ha), or roughly 19 square blocks. Course Information

  • Focus of Study : 
    Intensive English study for students who plan to attend American college or university or who wish to improve their English language skills for professional or personal reasons.

    Benefit, Goal of this course : 
    Year round courses available in full semester (17 weeks) and half-term sessions (9 weeks)20 hours of instruction per week (part time study available for non F-1 visa students depending on type of visa)Business Track available for advanced students Academic and immigration advising assistance Student activities and cultural learning opportunities 8 levels of instruction Most students take a combination of listening and speaking, writing and grammar, reading and vocabulary, and elective courses.Courses meet 2 hours each day from Monday – Friday (most students are in class at least 4 hours/day)Concurrent Enrollment Courses at San Jose State University available to advanced level students.

    Curriculum : 
    This year round course offered for students who plan to study in American college or universities is divided in 8 levels. All classes are held in small class environment  of less than 18 students per class. Beginning to High intermediate students take 16 hours of core classes every week including Oral Communication, Written Communication and Current Events Reading and Vocabulary. Elective courses are also offered four hours per week. Advanced students take 20 hours of classes per week including Oral Communication, Written Communication, Current Events Reading and Vocabulary, The Story of america, Critical Reasoning and Business English. Elective course options for advanced students are Presentation Skills, TOEFL skills, and Pronunciation class.

Course information

  • Focus of Study, Benefit, Goal of this course : 
    SJSU offer advanced English students (iBT 71 /PBT 530 / CBT 197 / IELTS 6) an easy way to take part in one or two semesters of study at San Jose State University without going through the formal admissions process.Through Semester at SJSU (SAS) program, students can enroll in 3 to 12 units of undergraduate level SJSU courses. All of the course credits earned are posted to a permanent SJSU transcript which may be transferred to other universities Students who have not yet attained the required (iBT 71 /PBT 530 / CBT 197 / IELTS 6) score will be enrolled in the Academic and Test Preparation program to help prepare them for university courses in a later semester. 

    Curriculum : 
    Students enroll in this program. Then, after taking the placement tests, they meet with an adviser who will help them select one or more regular SJSU courses. Enrollment in specific courses is subject to space availability and permission of the professor.  There is an additional fee of $100 per unit for the SJSU courses. Due to different class students take, the class size may vary from small discussion class to big lecture classes. All students have to be over 18 years old. Most students choose to enroll in intensive English classes and SJSU courses at the same time. For example, some students take advanced English academic reading and writing classes to help them complete their SJSU coursework successfully.

  • In order to be eligible for the SAS program, a student must have a minimum of 71 iBT/530 PBT/197 CBT/ 6.0 IELTS. If a student does not have the required score, he/she must take SAL’s placement test and score a minimum of 530 on that test.

私は高校を卒業してからアメリカの大学進学に向けてATPコースを選択しました。

高校でも英語専攻コースだったこともあり、ある程度の英語力はあったので、
ここではより専門的な内容の英語を学ぶことに集中しました。

クラスの生徒達も進学希望者が多く、お互い同じ目標に向かって高めあいながら勉強できたこともよかったと思います。
先生も、授業中に何か疑問点などがあった場合には、時間を惜しまず丁寧に対応してくれました。
授業に関して不満を感じたことはありませんでした。

また、アカデミックアドバイザーがいて、進路のことなどで何か不安なことや疑問点がある場合は、
親身に相談に乗ってくれます。
私も何度も相談に乗ってもらって、すごく助かりました。

そして学校があるサンノゼは、アメリカでも治安のよい都市の一つとして有名です。
必要最低限のことさえ気をつけていれば安全にすごせますし、住みやすいところだと思います。
進学希望の場合もそうでない場合も、お勧めできる学校だと思います。

從高中畢業以來,我選擇了ATP課程去美國的大學。
由於我在高中時還是英語專業,所以我有一些英語能力,
我專注於學習更專業的英語。

我覺得班上的學生也有很多申請人希望繼續學習,他們能夠相互學習,同時向著同一個目標邁進。
在課堂上有疑問等的時候,老師反應小心,不要輕率的時間。
我從來沒有感到不滿意我的課。

另外,如果有學術顧問,對課程感到不安或懷疑等等,
我會作為父母與父母協商。
通過一遍又一遍的諮詢,我得到了很多的保障。

而在那裡有一所學校的聖荷西,是著名的美國最安全的城市之一。
如果我注意必要的最低限度,我會安全的,我認為這是一個容易生活的地方。
我認為這是一個你可以推薦的學校,無論你是否想上大學。

學校的活動很多,設施也會不定期更新,每個周末都有安排活動帶學生出遊, 
老師教學方式活潑,也很有耐心,每堂課的內容雖然不同,但都注重再加強同學的聽說讀寫部分, 
每學期舉辦兩次英語能力測驗的考試,便利於要進修的學生,也而外開選修課提供給學生參加. 
學生都來自世界各地,不過大都來中東像是沙烏地阿拉伯,印度;以及韓國.日本.和中國各地的亞洲地區,除了可以認識各個地方不同的文化之外,也可以訓練聽除了美式以外的口音~~ 
這是一個以著名的旅遊城市這是著名的美食,音樂和歷史街區。 
因為去附近旅行都很方便很近,因此常常與其他同學一起去旅行~~ 有很多很美好得回憶
