Texas Tech University About the

  • Texas Tech University is a public research university in Lubbock, Texas. Established in 1923, it is the leading institution of the Texas Tech University System and has the seventh largest student body in the state of Texas. It is the only school in Texas to house an undergraduate institution, law school, and medical school at the same location. The university offers degrees in more than 150 courses of study through 13 colleges and hosts 60 research centers and institutes. Texas Tech University has awarded over 200,000 degrees since 1927, including over 40,000 graduate and professional degrees. Research projects in the areas of epidemiology, pulsed power, grid computing, nanophotonics, atmospheric sciences, and wind energy are among the most prominent at the university. Though the majority of the university's students originate in the southwestern United States, the school has served students from all 50 states and more than 100 foreign countries.     909 Flint Avenue Lubbock, TX 79406 
    Room Type: Single - Apartment furnishings consist of: a sofa, table and chair, dining table and chairs, full-sized refrigerator, microwave oven and two-burner cooktop. Each bedroom is furnished with: a twin bed, dresser, study desk and chair. 
    Meals: $170 dining bucks per session while in the dorm

    Description: 2013 Temporary Summer Meal Adjustments ONLY applicable to Sessions 6, 7 and 8:
     • Limited dining options and hours from May 3rd to August 19th . 
    • No dining options on May 27th and July 4th. Students can use a declining balance meal card to purchase food on campus to be
    eaten on days or times when the dining halls are closed. Students can cook in the dorm apartment or walk to several low cost restaurants near campus. Dining hall schedules can be found at http://www.depts.ttu.edu/hospitality/ . • ELS/Lubbock will arrange for student trips to the local grocery store if requested. Four private bedrooms sharing a kitchenette
    and 2 bathrooms in each apartment. 

    ***Meningitis Vaccination Notification*** All students who plan to live on campus are required to show evidence of being immunized against bacterial meningitis. Student must receive the immunization at
    least fourteen days prior to taking up
    residence in on campus housing. Acceptable evidence of vaccination includes one of the following: "A letter that indicates the month, day, and year of the immunization with the signature stamp of the physician or his/her designee;" or "An official immunization record generated
    from a local health department translated in English. Please submit evidence of your immunization
    to the center (lub@els.edu) for processing. This documentation must be received two weeks before your arrival. If this documentation is not received two weeks prior to student's arrival, it may be delay the
    entry in to campus housing.

Texas Tech University prides itself on being a major comprehensive research university that retains the sense of a smaller liberal arts institution. Lubbock has many music and art
    festivals each year, and you can enjoy history museums, sports, nightlife and Mackenzie Park. Lubbock has a mild, semi-arid climate. On average, Lubbock receives 475 millimeters of rain and 260 millimeters of snow per year. Summers in Lubbock are hot, although temperatures usually drop degrees overnight.
