Course Information

  • Focus of Study :
    The Intensive English Program (IEP) is designed for students who wish to communicate effectively in English for a variety of personal and academic purposes. IEP students develop a broad understanding of language and culture that will allow them to effectively pursue everyday needs and prepare them for higher-level language study. The IEP offers 23 hours of classes per week and five proficiency levels of study on a semester system. There are three sessions offered each year:


    Curriculum :
    Fundamental (level 1) and Basic (level 2) courses:

    Reading and Vocabulary (8 hours per week)
    Listening & Speaking (7 hours per week)
    Writing & Grammar (8 hours per week)
    Intermediate (level 3), High Intermediate (level 4), and Advanced (level 5) courses:

    Integrated Skills: Reading & Writing (8 hours per week)
    Integrated Skills: Listening & Speaking (7 hours per week)
    Grammar in Context (4 hours per week)
    My-Track Elective Course (students choose one - 4 hours per week)
    English for Business
    English for Science & Engineering
    English for Social Science
    English for Campus & Community Engagement

    If you submitted one of these scores to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln when you applied, we can use the score we have on file to place you into the program. If you did not submit any test scores when you applied, we ask that you do so no later than August 1. Please make sure you have your official scores sent to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at the time you register for the exam.

    -Courtyards and Village are the perfect spaces for the independent student. Courtyards is located close to the heart of campus and next to the Willa Cather Dining Complex. The Village features its own convenience store and is a short walk away from the Outdoor Adventure Center and the Rec Center. Both feature a full-sized kitchen, bathroom and private bedrooms, and are open over breaks.

    Knoll Residential Center, University Suites and Eastside Suites

    Knoll Residential Center is reserved for Honors Program students.

    Enjoy easy access to all your East Campus classes while living in spacious apartments in Massengale Residential Center. These apartment-style rooms have private bedrooms, in-unit bathrooms and full-size kitchens. The hall is open over breaks.
