Kapiolani Community College Hawaii About the

  • The Kapi‘olani Community College (Kapi‘olani CC) began in 1946 as the Kapi‘olani Technical School at a time when Hawai‘i was still a territory of the United States. The innovative school was administered by the Territorial Department of Instruction with a strong academic focus on food service. But in 1959, as Hawai‘i was entering statehood, three additional programs were added: practical nursing, business education and dental assisting. In 1965 the college realigned its academic mission and joined the University of Hawai‘i System. From its original home at the corner of Pensacola Street and Kapi‘olani Boulevard to its current location on the slopes of scenic Diamond Head, Kapi‘olani CC is poised to take its place at the head of the technical renaissance of the 21st century!

Students who demonstrate a strong command of academic English may be promoted to English 100 after only one semester. Students in the credit ESOL program are encouraged and expected to enroll in other credit classes at KCC.

I am an international student, how can I begin taking classes at KCC?
If your TOEFL® score is over 500, you can enroll in ESOL 94 or you can take an optional Writing Test. With the writing test, it may be possible to take English 100.

If your TOEFL® score is 400 – 499, you can enroll in the one-semester Intensive Transition Program (ITP) in ESOL. After you complete the ITP, you may be able to enroll in ESOL 92 or 94. Depending on my final writing test, it may be possible to enroll in ESL 100 or ENG100.

Location

Accommodation

  • On-Campus Housing
As a commuter campus, Kapiʻolani Community College (Kapi‘olani CC) does not provide on-campus housing.

The UH Mānoa campus has limited accommodations for students registered at UH system colleges on Oahu. These students must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program and be registered for a minimum of twelve credit hours while in residence. They are placed, however, after all Mānoa applicants are accommodated. Since Mānoa is a residential as well as commuter campus, their students are given priority.

For more information, visit UHM Student Housing.

    Off-Campus Housing
