    Qualifications
     High school graduation or GED
    Minimum High School GPA of 2.5
    Students with a 2.0-2.5 GPA may be admitted to certain baccalaureate programs with academic advising as a requirement.

    Test Scores
    Standardized test scores are not used in the Admission decision; however, they are used for placement into math and English courses.
    Only Accuplacer scores are accepted for placement into math courses.
    Accuplacer is preferred for placement into English courses; however, ACT or SAT scores are also accepted. Visit the ACT or SAT website to have your scores sent directly to UAA.

     Bachelor Degree Application $50
    These programs are generally four years, 120 credits. Bachelor programs prepare students for work in a particular field and can be a foundation for a graduate degree.

    English as a Second Language (ESL)
    Courses
    ESL A066 ESL Through Newspapers 1-4 Credits
    For ESL students of varied skill levels. Using newspapers to practice listening, speaking, reading, writing, and other skills. Some individual instruction. Special Note: May be taken for up to 4 credits in one semester and for up to 12 credits altogether.
    ESL A103 Oral Fluency I 3 Credits
    For intermediate to advanced students. Instruction in pronunciation, listening comprehension, and speaking strategies for academic and career settings. Emphasis on self-monitoring. Includes special practice in group discussion techniques. 
    Special Note: Required language lab work. 
    Registration Restrictions: Appropriate score on TOEFL/TSE or interview with ESL director.
    ESL A104 College Reading and Writing I 3 Credits
    For intermediate to advanced students. Extensive practice in reading and composition strategies for academic and career settings. Emphasis on alternatives to translation. Includes special practice in grammar. 
    Special Note: Required language lab work. 
    Registration Restrictions: Appropriate score on English Placement Test or TOEFL.
    ESL A105 Vocabulary Enhancement I 3 Credits
    For intermediate to advanced students. Extensive practice in different methods of acquiring a larger, more precise vocabulary. Emphasis on using context clues and choosing words to match the occasion/audience. Includes special instruction in idioms used by adults. 
    Special Note: Required language lab work. 
    Registration Restrictions: Appropriate score on English Placement Test or TOEFL.
    ESL A106 College Grammar I 3 Credits
    Presents elements of English grammar for improving comprehension and accuracy. Provides focused instruction in intermediate grammar of Standard American English for academic and professional settings. Includes practice in editing. Designed for ESL students only. 
    Registration Restrictions: Appropriate score on English placement test. 
    May Be Stacked With: ESL A110
    ESL A107 Oral Fluency II 3 Credits
    For advanced students. Further instruction in pronunciation, listening comprehension, and speaking strategies for academic and career settings. Emphasis on self-correction. Includes special practice in formal presentation techniques. 
    Special Note: Required language lab work. 
    Registration Restrictions: Appropriate score on TOEFL/TSE, or interview with ESL director.
    Prerequisites: ESL A103.
    ESL A108 College Reading and Writing II 3 Credits
    For advanced students. Further practice in reading and composition strategies for academic and career settings. Emphasis on the use of on-campus resources for self-improvement. Includes additional practice in grammar. 
    Special Note: Required language lab work. 
    Registration Restrictions: Appropriate score on English placement test or TOEFL.Prerequisites: ESL A104.ESL A109 Vocabulary Enhancement II 3 Credits
    For advanced students. Further practice in different methods of acquiring a larger, more precise vocabulary. Emphasis on applying knowledge of word parts from Latin and Greek. Includes special instruction in academic vocabulary. 
    Special Note: Requires language lab work. 
    Registration Restrictions: Appropriate score on English placement test or TOEFL.
    Prerequisites: ESL A105.
    ESL A110 College Grammar II 3 Credits
    Examines elements of English grammar for improving comprehension and accuracy. Provides focused instruction in high-intermediate and advanced grammar of Standard American English for academic and professional settings. Includes practice in editing. Designed for ESL students only. 
    Registration Restrictions: Appropriate score on English placement test or prerequisite course. 
    May Be Stacked With: ESL A106
    Prerequisites: ESL A106 with a minimum grade of C.

  • Residence Halls
    North, East, and West Halls are the three Residence Halls in the UAA Housing community. Opened in 1998, the three halls house approximately 200 students each in Single, Double, and Quad Suites.On each floor, rooms are clustered on two wings, and feature common area lounges for studying and socializing, coin-operated laundry facilities, computer labs and a student-staffed service desk.

    Main Apartment Complex (MAC)
    The six-building Main Apartment Complex, known on campus as “MAC,” is located just west of the Residence Halls and offers apartment-style living for 296 students.Each apartment has four single-bedrooms, a kitchen, shared bathroom, living room, and storage area.

    Templewood Apartments
    The Templewood Apartments are located on the southeastern side of the Student Housing area and offer twenty "town-house style" units housing a total of 80 students. The upper-level of each unit includes two single bedrooms, one shared bedroom, and two bathrooms. A kitchen, living room (complete with gas fireplace), half-bath, laundry room and storage closet are located on the middle level, and a two-car garage and additional storage complete the ground level.

  • The University of Alaska Anchorage Facilities & Campus Services department is charged with the maintenance and care of 71 buildings on the Anchorage campus, comprising over 2.8 million gross square feet. Our departments also support an additional 33 community campus buildings.
